Jehn Balback. aged 62, a well-known Cler-
acultan of town, died yery suddenly at

Charles Frick, a small boy, of C'8 Poplar
treat, wandered away from his borne en
Thursday afternoon, and waa found en East
King atreet by some boys and taken te the

ing him, managed te get from him the fact
that he lived en the hill. After a long search
ha found the parents et the child. They
war greatly distressed at the boy's absence

The house and greunda were brilliantly
lighted up, and a sumptuous banquet was
apread for the entertainment of the guests.
The festivities were kept up until the wee
sma' hours, the aged couple remaining until
all their guesta bad left.
Mr. and Mrs. Berger are Germane by
birth, and were married In the fatherland.
With four young children they came te
America In July, 1K2, and en landing at
New Yerk came directly te Lancaster where
they have since resided. They enjoy the
esteem et all who knew them, and in com.
men with their many friends the Istki.li-
ekmckr congratulates them en "the happy
occasion," and hopes for many mere returns
of the anniversary.

Jeseph C, Lenlx, who for three yeara was
clerk in the Beading railroad expreas office
in this city, and who subsequently drifted
down te Bosten, and obtained a subordinate
position en the Bosten A Albany railroad,
was en the 23d Inst, promoted te the Impor
ted position of general baggage agent en the
passenger department of the Bosten Albany
read. Jee was a soldier's orphan, educated
at tbe Mt Jey soldiers' orphans school. On
leaving school he learned telegraphy and
operated in Columbia for a ahert time. He
was brought te Lancaster aa a clerk by Wm.
J. Zslgler, agent or the Beading A Columbia
railroad, and worked ler him three yean.
He made friends with everybody and waa a
most faithful and efficient assistant. Leaving
Lancaster he waa atatlen agent at Fert Wash
lngten en the North Penn read and re
mained there until three or four yeara
age when he went te Boaten, get a
position en the Bosten i Albany read
and by bis own merit haa wen promotion as
general baggage agent Ills many friends in
Lancaster will be pleased te learn or his geed
