The party of bicycle riders who are en their
way by wheel te Staunton, Virginia, arrived
In Lancaster at 1 o'clock thla afternoon. They
atarted from Philadelphia Tuesday morning
and reached Ceateavllle last evening. They
were met by the members of the club of that
place and entertained ever night. Thla
morning, accompanied by several Ceateevllle
riders, they set out for Lancaster. At Wltmer'a
Bridge they were met by five members of the
Lancaster Bicycle Touring club, who es
enrted them te the Stevens house, where
many mere et the home rid era Joined them.
About forty persons took dinner there. This
afternoon the stringers, accompanied by
many members of the Lancaster club, started
for Yerk, where a ball and banquet will be
held tonight Samuel B. Downey, of this
city, acted as read master from Lancaster
te Yerk. The tourists will go from Yerk
te Gettysburg, and tbenee te Waynesboro, Pa ,
Hsgerstewn, Md., and down the Shenandoah
Valley te Staunton. Here the party will
break up, and some will go te SL Leuis te
attend the National meeting of wheelmen.
Others will return te their homes by rail.
The party that came through from Phila
delphia was much smsller than it waa ex
pected te be. The. following were Included

Yeates institute, has accepted the position of
head roaster el St. Paul's school at Salem, N.

crease of salary Mr. Hardy is thus promoted
te the control of a bearding school of high
stsnding, having four male Instructors under
him and a roll of thirty-five scholars, tbat
being the fixed limit of the school. Mr.
Hardy hss had many tempting offers of this

Mr. WrA Jenes, the assistant teacher, baa
also secured a desirable situation In a school

Last evening the last missionary meeting
ter this college year was held In the chapel.
Rev. Dr. E. V. Gerbart presided, and con
ducted the opening exercises, after which
Rev. A. C. Wbltmer, superintendent of the
beard of home missions of tbe Reformed
church, made an able address In which be
detailed tbe special needs of the church in
tbe missionary field, dwelling en tbe fact that
the church needs many able and vigorous
men te go out Inte the western part of our
country. Then Mr. Aumen, of the seminary,
sang a sole which was highly appreciated,
after which Rev. C. F. McCauley, D. D., of
Carlisle, was Introduced who made one et the
ablest addresses en the subject of missions
tbat has been given In the college chapel dur
ing the year. After Miss Apple sang a sole
tbe meeting waa closed.
Tc-nigbt, as has been announced, Philip
ScbatT, D. D , LL. V., the great church
historian, will preach the annual sermon be
fore tbe students of the theological seminary
at 7 JO o'clock.

William Miller, el Hltasburg, Steels With a
Terrible lUllread Accident.
William Miller, a resident of Strasbnrg
borough, met with a serious accident this
morning. In attempting te get en a locomo
tive at Strasburg he slipped and fell under
the car wheels. Tbe train waa at once
stepped and Miller taken from under lb An
examination Bhewed tbat one arm was badly
crushed and tbat bis side waa also seriously
injured. After his injuries were temporarily
dressed be was taken te tbe county hospital.
He is 25 j ears old, a bricklayer by trade, a
single man, and be admitted that be waa
about stealing a ride when tbe accident hap
pened.
Dr. F. Keneaey and Dr. U. M. Black took
a rib out of tbe unfortunate man and some
broken bones out of bis arm. He ia In a crit
ical condition.
