A meeting of male members of the Second
Street Lutheran church was held lant even
ing for the purpose et forming an association
for men. A temporary organization was
effected and a committee selected te draft
resolutions te govern the society. The as
sociation will meet two weeks hence.
The property of the United Brethren church
t Third and Perry streets, has been sold te
Henry Westerman, who will erect three
dwelling houses at that place.
The ineni bars et the Presbyterian church
have adopted anewaystem for raising church
funds, which is proving success.
A Troublesome Darkey.
Geerge Lloyd, a colored man of town, waa
In the west yarda of the Pennsylvania rail
road yesterday afternoon, where he caused
some annoyance. He get en the stone train
of the St. Charles furnace and commenced
throwing off the contents until he bad a large
quantity lying en the ground, lie then
opened the gates or some of the cars and the
tone wns thrown en the tracks. The col
ored man is insane and is a great trouble te
the railroad men. Ollieer Gilbert, of the
railroad police, was sent for, who ordered the
man from the place. Lloyd frequents the
railroad and is In danger of meeting with
an accident.
Town Notts.
The pay car of the Frederick division was
li town this morning and the empleyes were
paid for March.

The taaeral of Oeerge W. Pettta took place
from hie lather'a 'residence en Weal King
atreet, at 3 o'clock this afternoon, and the at
tendance waa very large. The liedy was In a
beautiful casket, en the lid el which waa a
ellrer plate with the name of diceased, date
of birth, death, Ae. It wis viewed as It lay
In an upstairs room by a great many people,
who knew the deceased m well during bis
life time. The floral tributes were very
handsome. Among them was a pil
low of carnations, lilies, re?, Ac,,
With the word "Rest" In the centres which
was sent by the ahepuiatea of the deceased.
Ihe members of the city police lerce con
tributed a large cress, anchor and heart of
beautiful flowers, and the llsblitg club, te
Which deceased belonged, sent larpe and
very tine crown. Jamea Best's piece was a
pretty wreath, and Mrs. Jehn Kissinger sent
a cress. The Ueral pieces were arranged ai
the bead of the ccllln, and presented a tine
appearance. The service were con
ducted by Hers. Tllzel and Knelling, of the
Reformed churrhia, after which the body
was carried te the hearse by the following
young men, shepmates of the deceased, who
acted as pall bearers : Themas Batten, Wil
liam Myers, Usrry Sbread, William Kbertz,
Byren J. Drewn and Jt'rank llrlukuian. 'lbe
funeral cortege then moved te the Lucater
cemetery where the interment whs made.

This morning about 6 o'clock l)r S. h.
Weber, veterinary surgeon, was feuud lu an
unconscious condition in his room at the
Keystone hotel. Dr. M. I Ilcrr was at
once sent te attend him, and found him suf
fering from merphia or ether narcotic, and
applied the proper remedies. Up te neon
te day Dr. Weber had net regained conscious
ness, and was regarded te be In a rather
critical condition.
Yesterday Dr. Weber was suffering from
a bad cold and from neuralgia, and stated
te a friend that he was going te take a dose
or qulnlna Before going te bed, about 11
o'clock last night, he said te the estler at the
Keystone that he believed he bad taken the
wrong medicine. During the ulglit bis
groans were heard by some et the boarders,
but they paid no attention te them, supposing
them te be these of a drunken man.
It Is believed by Dr. Weber's friends that
he took by mistake a dose of merphia in
stead of quinine, both of which drugs have a
place in his cabinet et medicines.
At 2 o'clock this afternoon Dr. Weber
was considered out of danger, though he was
lltghty and talked Incoherently.
Dr. Weber stated te a friend this alternoen
that he was net unconscious ; that he heArd
all that was said by the persons who visited
bis room, but that he could net speak, lie said
that Dr. Ueir waa mistaken in supposing
that he bad taken a narcotic ; that be was
sutlering from a congestive chill and that he
bad one three years sge by which be was
allected in a similar way. Dr. Weber's
friend says that be was quite rational when
the above statement was made.

Tuesday alternoen at 1 o'clock the com
mittee en survey of drainage and Improve Impreve
ment of the water works met at the mayor's
cilice, and in company with the city regu
lator took carriages and droe te H.T-evlUe,
3 miles north of this clt, win re there Is a
bill which was supposed te be hih enough
te afford a site for a reservoir te supply this
city with water by gravitation. The party
visited the hill and by the u-i of the regu
lator's Instruments sighted the present reser
voirs, when It was found that the top et the
bill was found te be five feet lower than the
top of the reservoirs. The top et the hill in
rear of Franklin and Marshall college was
also sighted, and it was found te be ten feet
higher than the Rosevllle hill.
The committee next proce-eded te lios lies
tetter's mill, en the Cenestpga, and surveyed
the surroundings. They found the dletance
from the mill te Kesevlile te be about two
and three-quarter miles, and from Hun
Becker's mill three and a half milts Frem
this point the committee reached the New
Helland pike and surveyed all the Ultlerent
points, and, stepping at Kvleu, fcuud the
highest point thereto be en a Ieti with the
bottom of the city reservoirs.
Frem there the committee -rent te inspect
the Ranck mill property and lu surround
ings, returning te the city from that point.

Under instruction from the mayor the
chief of police will hereattur enforce the fol
lowing et a city ordinance :

except In the market space during market

adults who are able te work, and would be
better employed at some u-tfnl trade, call
ing or occupation. And II any person or
persons shall expose for sale any mead, beer,
cakes, fruits, nuts or aiveetmiats without
ermlssien from the mayor as aforesaid, he,
she, or they, se cfleuding, en conviction
thereof, shall pay a line of one dollar ler each
etiense."
A Slight Fire.
Last bveulng a slight tire occurred in the
tin shop of David II. Miller, ou North Queen
street, next deer te the Washington hotel.
Between 8 and J o'clock the attention of
Olilcer ileaa was called te smoke, which was
issuing from the second story of the building.
Ue notified the firemen et Company Ne. 4,
whose house Is oppeslto. A ladder was pro
cured and an entrance ellected through the
upstairs window. The tire waa found te be
in the fleer of the workshop, and it was ex
tinguished with several buckets of water,
alter a hole, about the alzs of a man's hat, had
been burned. The shop bad been closed at
six o'clock. In the afternoon several tires of
the tinsmiths were burning, and it is likely
that a spark escaped from one of them and
finally caught the fleer.

The viewers appointed te assess damages
caused by the proposed opening of Pine
street from Chestnut and Frederick had a
seceid meeting this morning for the purpose
e' miking corrections and additions, ea all

The Geldsn Eagla Fair.
The attendance at the fair of the Knights
of Gelden Eagle in Kxcelaler ball was again
large lat evening. Among the lucky
peefle waa Mrs. Sallie Blngeman, who wen
a silk pin cushion. H. M. Knight get a box
of cigars. This evening there will be soles,
duets and quartettes by the members of the
MillersvlUe band, which la present every
evening.

Benjamin Conn, prosecuted by Frank
Cebn, was beard this morning by Alderman
A. F. Dennelly and required te enter ball
ter trial at the ApM court.
Frank Cebn waa in turn prosecuted by
Banlamln for a almllar effansa. but that case

The number et tram pa at the almshouse
baa dwindled down te thirty-two, and ml
re at work. Eleven of them are whitewash
ing the long fence along the Philadelphia
turnpike. They are of the Inneflenalve kind,
and are fender of a meal than of running
way, although a watch Is kept upon them.
They are all arrayed in striped clothing, and
de their work welt. Inside et the wall tie
remainder, some of whom are desperate men,
are busy cracking ateues. The number of
inmates or the almshouse has greatly de
creased stnee the opening of spring.

Secretary Kdge, of the State Heard of Ag
riculture, and Dr. ltrldge, state veterinary
surgeon, of Philadelphia, visited the farm
et Jehn Fry, near Masenvlllr, this morning,
Inspected his cattle, some of which were
sutletlng from pleuro-pneumenia, and killed
five of them. They also Instructed Mr. Fry
te quarantine his cattle and gave orders te
the constable of the township te keep all
cattle etl the reads In the neighborhood, se
that the scourge may net be cart led te ether
farms.

A large party was given last evening by
Miss Lena M. Fertlg, at Ne. 20 Kast Vine
street, as a surprise te Mr. M. J. tnoek, and
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Mediae. There were
about thirty couples present, Including In
vited guests from New Yerk, Philadelphia,
Lebanon and Reading. Vecal and Instru
mental music, with dancing, kept all merry
until a late hour, when relresbments were
served.
The Car Broke.
This morning William Flss took a number
of horses te the Reading depot for the pur
pose of shipping them te New Yerk. The
fleer of the car In wblch the horses were
placed broke and one of the animate was se
badly cut that be had te be taken back te the
stable. The ethers were then shipped by
the Pennsylvania read.
Withdrew Ills Hid.
Henry Bundel was one of the lowest bid
ders ler the collection of the state and county
tax for the east and west warda. Ue has
withdrawn his bid because he expected te be
awarded the contract for both wards and can
not allerd te collect only a portion of the city
at the bid he put In.

Jehn F. Stautler, who was awarded the
contract for taking down the prison tower,
gave bend en Tuesday afternoon for the
faithful performance of the contract. Ue will

Art China Decorating.
In the show w Indews et Harry A. Schmidt,
151 North Queen street, the Lancaster Art
China Decorating company, represeuted by
Geerge C. LUIer and Jehn A. Bradel, may be
seen a very beautiful display of band-painted
china ware. Messrs. LUIer and Bradel have
introduced a new enterprise in Lancaster that
cannot fall te be appreciated. Plain, white
goods are decorated In any design, either in
the ever-glazed or underglazed process, and
as a number of amateurs are doing very geed
work en band-palntlng china the firm Is pre
pared te Are-burn the colors. Mr. Schmidt
has taken the agency for LUIer aad Bradel,
