vere, is easily treated. Bring the severed
parte together tightly, and bold them se,
either wltb the lingers or otherwise. The
hemorrhage will seen atop, and tbe puts

te keep tbe sides of tbe wound together, but
care aneuia 00 exerciBea in applying it
Take a narrow strip of the plaster and stick
It te one side of the cut, tbeu bring tbe lips el
wound closely together, and fasteu tbe plaster
te the ether side. In drug stores several
layera of court plaster are often applied, but
this 1 wrong. If tbe depth of the out i

way for tbe pus te escape, and ir only one

wounds there are a few cardinal principles te
be observed. The dressing aheuld be dry

welling up of bleed, pressure la required. It
Is Important te understand that hemorrhages
of arteries ahenld be pressed en the aide et
tbe wound away from tbe heart, and tbat In
hemorrhages of a vein the pressure abeuld be
made ou the aide nearest the heart The
handiest way or compressing Is by meana el
a handkerchief tied around the limb and
ihen twisted until sufficient creature la
gained. Anything will de, however, that
will step tbe circulation. After the hemor
rhage has been atepped tbe dressing abeuld
be applied. Large lacerated weunda aheuld
be kept dry, and tbe bandage wben put en

amoethly. Dr. Jame then ahewed the way
te bandage, and explained "reversing" tbe

Hemorrhages Frem tbe threat or lungs, or
"bleed spitting," la mere alarming. Tbe
blend may come from the mouth, but it la
difficult for any one inexperienced te be
sure of this, and the best way la te take geed
care of the sufferer until a pbyatclan arrive.
The first thing te be done 1 te insist upon
ausolute quiet ; net a word aheuld be aald.
Kntlre rest of tbe threat and lungs is neces
stry. The breathing should be done through
the nose Ordinary table salt may often be
s a allowed wltb geed results.
I1UKNS AND SCALDS.
These accidents both have tbe aame effect.
The first thing te be explained Is hew te put
out a fire, which has attacked the clothing.
It takes some little time for the fire te get
through tbe dress te the Hash, aud wltb a
cool lieid the llatues can generally be put out
belere lnj ury Is dena The werat thing te de
is te ruu out Inte tbe open air, where the
lUmes are fanned and wben putting out the
lire U well nigh Impossible. Smother the
tUmes with a cloak or coat or anything that
can be wrapped around tbe body.
After a burn great care abeuld be taken In
removing tbe clothing. Tbe depth et the
burn baa a great deal te de with tne after re
sult. If tbe burn be slight and the deeper
layer et tbe skin net involved, no disfigure
ment will fellow, but If the deeper layer et
skin be readied deformity la likely te fellow.
Cut tbe clothing off, and, If It sticks in any
place, cut around this. Nature will threw
off the patch in time. De net try te save the
clothing.
The next niep is te relieve tne pain wnicn
a burn bring9. Keep tbe air from tbe parts
by meana et lard or cotton. Spread tbe lard
ever tbe burn and put tbe cotton ever tbla.
Any neii'lrirltating ointment or grease will de
instead of lard, lu every case of a burn tbe
shock Is great and aheuld be carefully treated.
Administer stimulants, auch as milk or aeup
or beer tea. The reaction from tbe burn 1
sometimes excessive.
FROST BITK.
l'rezau bands, feet and ear are common In
cold weather. Of enurse preventive meas
ures are the best, but a frost bite can be cured
wltbeul sorleus result. Never go near the
tire, but apply cold bodies. Snow la the
beat curative, and, It you cannot obtain thl,
use lee water or loe. Rubbing, together with
the cold, will revive tbe circulation. When
tbe circulation U restored run wltb dry flan,
nets, net heated. Tbe early treatment of
frost bltea tavea many angers and tee.
FRACTURES.
Remove tbe patient te a oemrortable place,
don't let him lie in tbe oeld or beat. Frao Frae
tures are alwaya attended with a displace
ment of the bone. If there la but one bone
la tbat part or tbe body Involved the dis
placement will be greater than If tbere are
two bones, but one of whleh 1 fractured. Aa
seen aa tbe accident bappena tbe broken limb
aheuld be held atralgbt and the patient put
In bed. Tbe limb may be kept atralgbt by a
rude splint, fastened eutalde el two pillow
placed en either aide of the fractured part.
Tbla will prevent any Injury te the enda of
the benea from rubbing, and make tbe phy
alclan'a work easier. A fractured bone never
unites for tbree or four days, ae tbere 1 no

ussibtance comes.
