The Llnunnn society celebrated its twenty,
firth aunlveraary en Saturday la Its rooms in
the Y. M. C. A. building. Dr. 8. S.
Rithvcn, in behalf et the curator?, delivered
an address, In which he detailed the labors et
ineeeciety curing its twentyflve yeat el
existence. The society was ergaulzrd en
February 8, 1SC2, and from that time up te
1S78 occupied the third fleer of the old City
Hall building, in conjunction with the Atbe
nsium. In the latter year the AtheeKuin
library building was merged In the Y. M. C.
A. library and the Llnnnin took up its
home In the Y. M. C. A. building. Tlie va
rious collections are interesting and valuable,
composed as fellows : Mammalegy 3D spe
cimens, most of them mounted, seme tew
'being alcoholic specimens.
Ornithology 240 specimens 1 150 lana and
00 water bird a. Allied te these is a collec
tion oTel2 birds' eggs, of about ISO species;
18 birds' nests and 15 etiological speci
mens. Reptills 450 specimens, consisting of ser
psnts, turtles, lizards, frogs and toads.
Ichthyology 523 apeclmens 13 of which
are stuffed, the balance alcohello speci
mens. Connected with these sre 10 specimens et
the saws of the ssw fib.
In the branch of articulata there is a case
containing 10, COO specimen of coleepterous
Insects, of about 0, COO species ; two eases of
1,600 specimens of moths and butterflies 1,000
specimens et netmptereus insects ; 123 Jars of
about 375 specimens of arachnids and cms
taces ; l,:oe bottles of myrlap3ds,entczM, etc.
In alcohol. Alse, about 65 specimens of in
sect architecture.
The conchelogical collection numbers
about 2,500 specimens, of which 600 are Cuvl
atile and 1,000 marine.
The botanical collection consists of forty
large cases and port.'elloi, containing 3.0C0
specimens of plants. This includes nearly a
complete herbal of the L-racaster county
flora, and many from adjicent states and
some foreign specimens. In connection with
this there are 150 specimens of different
weeds.
