Much alarm was occasioned by a sudden
movement In the ice north el Pert De
posit, at i o'clock l'rlday afternoon. The

In contact with the lce-burier here,
piled up into Immense masses at the north
end et Pert Deposit, knew n as Keck Hup.
The tracks et the Columbia A Tort Deposit
Railroad company were seen submerged
under sixteen Inches el I 9 and water, and
ler several hours all trains were detained
until the water sulwlded. The water attained
a depth of three loot in the streets et Keck
Hun. Little or no ice was curled into the
streets. At the expiration of hour the
water began te subside slowly, and has
been falling gradually since that time. The
streets at present are submerged under
about one feet of water at Ibvk Kun and the
railroad trai ks six inches. Iho railroad com
pany have forwarded all their englues and
ether rolling stock, which usually remained
at Tort Deposit, te Terry ville. They bave
also placed a night watchman at their station
here te sound the alarm should another
movement In the lce occur te night. Nearly
all the residents living In tbe lower sta
tion of the town bave moved their house
bold cllects te the second lloer el their
dwelling'. The merchants located en tbe
lower side et Main street have moved the
principal portion of their goods te the second

milen, the river Is packed full ellce, A heavy

the darkness is such that thn condition of the
nv er cannot he observed. It cannot lie sur
mised at present heu it may terminate, but
the position at Tort Deposit is decidedly
menacing.

Dr. Weidman extracted the bullet, which

one, aud the young lady is net expected te
recover. Lehman was arrested by OftVer
btemel and taken before Alderman Leng,

Schwab's injuries. Lehman claims that the
sheeting was accidental, but ethers saythat
the revolver was deliberately aimed at Mim
