A Large Audience te Witness O. I Andrews'
rirst-Ulaas Company In the Ureal
Itnsslan 1'lay.
Thursday ovenlng, strange le say, thore
was a geed-sized audience at the opera house.
Tbe gnllery was full, but thore was consid
erable room down stairs. The attraction was
the well known piny of " Mlcbael Htrogell,"
which had net been seen In this city slnce
five years ego. This company Is the only ene
new playlrg the plece.and is under the man
agement of Charles I Andrews. The
play, es is well known by theso who
have evor seen It, dopends largely
upon spectacular cllects for success, and
nvey tiorsens are required In its production.
Fer this reason it Is very dlfTcult for com pa pa
ules making one ulght stands te represent It
88 well as it should be. On account of the
small Blze of the stages in most towns, It Is
lmtiessible te use the requisite scenery. Mr.
A ndrews' company is about the size of theso
usually traveling with the piece and he
carries a great deal mero scenery than he ever
uscsoutsideof the large cities. The produc
tion of the play last night wassuccesslul, and
It pleased the audience. The company has
beeu changed somewhat from last year, but It
remains strong. The princi pal characters were
well taken, J, Hay Cesaar doing admirably as
Michnel Nlrogeff. Miss Ceclle Kush was very
strong as Mara Mrorjeff, the brave mother
of the here. This lady has played the charac
ter ler several season, and in it she does some
splendid acting. MUh Arneld was very geed
as ..Wiifui Faler. K. A. Locke and " Punch"
Kobcrtsen created a great deal e! amuse
ment as Cornelius O'liricn and VMUp rtil rtil
tiet, the energetic nowspaper correspondents.
The remalnlng members or the company did
creditable work.
The ballet Is net large, but the girls are
mostly shapely and pretty. Their marches
and drills were geed and drew lerth lets of
applause Signoria (Jessi's dancing was line.
Among the specialties Introduced was the
grotesque dancing, high kicking and conter.
Hen acts of the three Honaldes. Kissel g ive
a very pleasing llghtniiigdrill act.
This morning the company left for Wil
mington, Delaware, where they remaln
two nights They go thence toNewKneland
and open at the Windser theatro.tNew Yerk,
In New Year's week. Mr. Andrews lelt for
New Yerk at a late hour last night te make
arrangements for the production or the play,
en a monster scale In that city. All the
princlat characters will be the same as last
night, but the ballet will be largely incroased
and additional specialties will be Introduced.
