llattle Wilsen, a rather aell-knewn woman
of this city, was committed te pritonen last
Tuesday, ter 60 days by Mayer Morten, for
being drunk and disorderly, llattle thought
this was a rather set ere sentence and she de
clared thrt she would net remain that long.
Friday she made a desperate attempt te take

She was seen afterwards taken with terrible
pains, and she Informed the prison officials

physician, was sent ler, and lie gave the
woman an emetic which had the deHlred ef

tbe prospects for her finishing the sentence
fere very tine, llattle was first sent te Jail

fieuillis Philadelphia Time.
It Is manifest te all Intelligent aud ills
passionate observers, that the tide el
battle has been drifting toward Black
during tbe last two week, and the only
problem that profoundly concerns the
friends et Heaver, Is whether the Black
tide will be strong enough te make his
malnrlty in tbe state overbalance Beaver's
majority In this city. Tbe Itepublluaus
yet claim 20,000 ler Beaver In Philadelphia
and 10,000 outside ertheclty, buttheyare net
assured el these figures, eieelally In the
state. On the ether hand the Democrats
claim from 20,000 te 25,000 for Black in the
state and concede 15,000, or, at tbe most, 10,
000 te Beaver In the city. All Information
Iremtbe Western counties Indicates a very
heavy votefor Black. If tlie strong Demo
cratic counties in the Eat shall maintain
themselves, Black will bring te Philadelphia
a decided majority ever Beaver ; and the
drift In this city of the elements which ate
the chief facteis lu the contest, has been to
ward Black.
