Ill-Treated a Livery Tram.
On last Monday ovenlng James SulUtan
and Jehn Cbaney, two young men, procured
team from Samuel Campbell's livery stable,
for the purpose el taking a ride They said
tbe team would be returned In about ene half-
beer. Tbe team was In use ler a considera
bly longer time than expected and returned
in a very bad condition. The horse was badly
used up and the buggy showed signs of reugti
usage. Complaint was entered against the
men at the otllce or Squire Evans, and they
ware arrested yesterday by Officer Wlttlck.
Last evening they were given a hearing,
when they paid alt cesta and damages.

James Pem, Who Was Leng Identified With
Lancaster Iodestrles,
Tiila afternoon the telegraph brought tbe
uewaei tbe death at Ocean Greve, N. J., of
Jamea Potts. The deceased had been in ill
health for some months past In June be
went te the seashore, aa has been his custom
for years. The cause et bis death was
paralysis. Mr. Potts was bem In Maryland
and was about 01 years of age. He
came te Lancaster 45 years age and
first began tbe manufacture el fan
ning mills. Subsequently he engaged
with Jehn Ileam in the dry goods business
en West King street. Alter Mr. Beam re
tired he carried en the business himself for a
time, when leaving that he became a partner
et B. Frank Sayler, the photographer. The
two were together for five years, and
it has been about fifteen years since
Mr. Petta retired. Since that be
baa lived privately most et the time.
Tbe last business In which he was engaged
was that of a dealer in leaf tobacco. lie
waa a partner of C. (J. ilerr, but sold out
some time age.
Mr. Potts' home in this city was at 120
East Chestnut street, vtherebehad residedfer
many years. He was atnernberef Ibe Duke
Street Methodist church, with which he con
nected himself many years age. He was also
a member of Monterey ledge of Odd Fellows.
He leaves a wile, who has been an inalld
for many years, and also a grown daughter.
Mr. Petta was a pious, upright citizen in
every respect, and had a large circle of
friends and acquaintances in this city, who
were shocked te hear of his death, which
waa rather sudden. There are a ,' great many
Lancaster people at Ocean Greve, and Mr.
Petta was seen early in tbe week by a num
ber et folks who have since returned home.
He was then able te go in bathing, and be
sides looking well seemed te be In excellent
spirits.
The body will be brought te this city at
10:10 this evening.
Funeral of a Well Known Lady.
The funeral of Mrs. L'llza Grablll, took
place from the residence of Henry Weldler,
brother of the deceased, In West Karl, en
Friday, and was largely attended. Kev. J.
W. Weerle, preached tbe sermon from Kev.
xxi.,7 " He that overcemoth shall inherit all
things," a text which was selected by tbe
deceased previous te her death. Interment
was made at Carpenter's church. Deceased
waa tbe widow of Peter Grablll, and was
widely known and respected by all.
The Corener Cheated.
Werd was aent te Corener Uenauian this
atternoen that Michael Lyte, who fell from a
train at tbe Harrisburg turnpike, had died at
the county hospital from his injunes. The
coroner empanelled a jury and was about go
ing te tbe hospital when one ei the selected
Jurers telephoned te tbe hospital for the time
or nis aeam. tie was surprised te receive a
message that Lyte was en the perch at the
hospital, and has nearly recovered from his
Injuries.

Struck by a Train.
A south bound train en the Quarry ille
railroad struck tbe wagon of late Or. J. W.
Nevie, at tbe Walnut street crossing of the
railroad, shortly after two o'clock this after--neon.
The wagon was badly wrecked, but
the driver escaped uninjured. There are
contradictory statements as te whether the
agine bell was ringing at the time of tbe ae
