There has been a great deal of complaint,
by citizens el Lancaster as well as strangers,
about the loose manner in which the hack
business la conducted in this city, and the
cenduotef someot the backuien Is net what
it should be. Recent incidents have set the
people te thinking and measures will new
be taken te regulate the business and keep
the back drivers in the Btralght path of
duty. There is net another town In
the state, outside or Pittsburg and
Philadelphia, where be many hacks are
usea upon me Bireets. Tliere ere eight or
nine lines in Lancaster at present, and they
each run from ene te four and five teams.
At the meetings of councils next Wednesday
night the matter will be brought up by a
well known member of solect branch, who
baa taken it In charge. An ordinance will be
introduced and very likely passed, which
will compel owners or hacks te take out
yearly licenses. The drivers will be obliged
tewear badges with their numbers en their
hats or clothing, and they will be
compelled te display their numbers en the
hack lamps, which will have te be kept
lighted at night. Thonamea of the drivers
of each hack will be taken and placed en a
register. In this way strangers will be able
te ascertain who drives them and they will
be protected. The city will sell the curbing
alengthe Chestnut street side or the Penn
sylvania railroad station and a hack stand
will be made there. The arrangements will
be a new source el revenue te the city aud
irresponsible persons will net be elveu
licenses.

The man was hauled around town
for about a half hour, and In that
time the carriage was driven across Duke
street bridge three times. The stranger
tlnally became tired and told the driver that
he was Batisfled that he did net knew where
be was going. He get out of the carrlage and
was obliged te Bearch for the gentleman's
