Narrow Escape.
Yesterday ailernoen a young boy of about
twelve years of age attempted te Jump en
a freight train while it was running at a
geed rate of speed through the Columbia
yards, but missed his loetbold and was drag
ged for some distance. The boy held te the
side of the car until be managed te leave go
In safety. Nothing serious resulted from the
affair, although Uie boy was badly fright
ened. Vf enld Met Prosecute.
A hearing was given last night te Harry
Yeanlsh, the young boy arrested for com
mitting a nuisance In the house of W. H.
Gilbert, at the ofllee of Squire Uershey. Mr.
Gilbert would net prosecute him and he was
dlrebarged.
Town Nete.
A game of ball will be played In town ou
next Friday afternoon between the Sam
Fields nine, of Reading, and the Columbia
club. This game will be the second of the
aeries for the championship of Lancaster and
Berks counties, and will be the last game be
tween the two clubs played In town. The
third game will take place at Lancaster. A
geed contest may be expected.
A first-class exhibition of walking en the
tight rope took place last night en Locust
street, at the Franklin house. The exhibition
will be repeated te-nlgbt.
During yesterday the workmen were busily
engaged In repairing the leaks In the tluas
at the electrle light station. The repairs
were completed and the commercial and
borough circuits were started running about
seven o'clock last evening.
Harry Bennett, Jehn Evans and TImethv
Meran, three Bremen en the Pennsylvania
railroad, passed successful examination for
promotion te engineers. This morning they
left town for West Chester, where they will
run engines en the West Chester branch.

A public reception was given the Soldiers'
Orphan Slxteeners at Association hall, Phil
adelphia, Tuesday night. There were pres
ent about two hundred and tilty or the
young peeple of both sexes, who have
.graduated from the several soldiers' orphans
schools in the state, two hundred of them
being -visitors. The ethers reside in Phila
delphia. 11. I Uevan, president el the
Alumni association, presided. Among the
persons occupying seats en the stage were
Mrs. Elizabeth K. Hutter, Rev. J. W. Sayres,
Majer William 1L Lambert, Henry Ueuck,
deputy state superintendent ; Rev. James
Nelll, Majer Spleer and ethers.
Rev. Mr. Nelll opened with prayer. Mayer
Win. B. Smith was te have delivered the
address of welcome tothe tlsitlngSlxteeners,
but Wis unable te be present, as he had only
returned from Canada at neon and hurried
te Atlantic City two hours later. He was
represented by his messenger, Captain
Themas H. Leabourne, wbe,ln.aneatspeecb,
welcomed the visitors. President Devan
replied te the welceme.
Seme allusions te Mrs. Hutter, who had
done se much for the soldiers' orphans when
they younger and Inmates of the orphan
homes, brought out rounds of applause.
Msler Lambert delivered an oration replete
with eloquent allusions and was liberally
applauded. Miss Mellie Reagan, or Cass
Tiile, gave a recitation. C. B. Jehnsen, el
Quakertown, the eldest Hlxteener present,
was introduced, and after making some re
marks offered a resolution thanking Mrs. E.
. Hutter for the many acts of kindness
shown te the sires of the soldiers' children
in the hospitals during the war and for the
faithful manner in which she bad for se
many years, ever since the inception of the
homes, steed by the little ones, always true
and motherly te them. The resolution was
adopted with great enthusiasm.
The president then stated that a scene net
en the pregramme would fellow which could
be best understood when it should occur.
While the orchestra was playing Mrs. Hutter,
who bad retired, walked In escorting a young
man, Benjamin F. Lang, a graduate el the
CaBsvllle Heme, who took a position nearthe
front or the stage. Majer Harry Splcer led
out a blushing young woman, attired In a
cream aatln bridal dress, who steed beside the
young man, the two facing the audience.
The young lady was a MIks Llla Clabaugh,
daughter of Jehn and Luclnda Clabaugh, el
Alteena. Rev. James Nelll took his position
before the couple and proceeded te perform
the marriage ceremony according te the
ritual or the Methodist Episcopal church.
After the ceremony Mrs. Hutter, In a short
speech, presented Mr. and Mrs. Lang with a
silver tea set, which was received en their
behalf by Rev. Mr. JS'eill. Rev. Mr. Sayers
then pronounced the benediction and the
assemblage was dismissed.

Oliver Leed, a partner in the nrm of Kaull
man & Leed, of the Economy printing office,
Centre Square, tuU city, disappeared Satur
day night aud has net been since heard from
by friends In this city. He had been neglect
ing bis business for home time provleus and
his father-in-law, Abram Brown, who had
furnished the means te buy him an intereht
in the printing office, took measures lately te
secure himself against less. Leed was mar
ried te a daughter of Mr. Brown. His wife
died six or seven months age aud since that
time Leed has become dissipated and
neglected his family. He was treasurer of
the UnUerin Rank or the Knights or the
Gelden Eagle, and of the order et the United
iriends. aud it is believed that he get away
with the lunds or both societies. The
amounts, hewever.are small and the societies
are perfectly secured from less by Leed's
bendsmens. Leed was last heard irem In
ttburg, from which point he telegraphed
ttat he was coming home j but friends In this
ewy de net believe It.

Geerge Kunkel, nominated by the Dauphin
