In the house, Mrs. Qulles beard the noise
they made but did net entertain any

of the Inmates. The first discovery of the
deed was made when an attempt was made
te godewn the near stairway and the Uncling
it looked. Ne clue is had te the thieves, but
during the day a man carrying a satchel was
at the beuse ler something te eat. A nor be
left he was seen talking te another stranger.
These parties might bare been ceueerued in
the robbery.

Hannah llurrells, a colored resident of
town, was arrested byOlIlcer llardnele, last
riaturclay night, for disorderly conduct. She
was committed te Jail for five.days by 'Squire
Frank.
Stephen Burrells, husband of the above
woman, was arrested by OiUcer Wlttick, last
Saturday night, for disorderly conduct. He
was discharged en the payment of costs.
These people are notorious in the tow n pe
nce courts.
Town Notes.
The Bible class of the Second Street
Lutheran Sunday school, taught by Mr. I
W. May, will held their annual picnic en
Thursday, August 17. The class will Bpend
the dsy at Yerk Furnace.
The Pastime social club have reorganized
and will held their pleasant seciables during
the coming winter. The Bret ball of the sea
son will be held en September 17.
The August Flowers, of Lancaster, came te
Columbia, en last Saturday afternoon, te play
ball, but were unable te de se en account el
the weather. The game will be played-en
next Thursday afternoon.
On Tuesday afternoon the Christiana club
Will arrive In town and play their second
game with the Columbia club. The visitors
will be strengthened by two Lancaster play
ers. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. S. Celeman, of Head
ing, spent Sunday in town, as the guests of
Mr. and Mrs N. Ulllmau, en Walnut street.
A slight wreck occurred en Sunday en the
mertrackefthe Pennsylvania railroad. Twe
cars leaded with telegraph poles jumped the
track while being pushed up a grade. The
poles bad te be leaded into ether cars.
A cenventien will be held en Tuesday
evening for the purpose of electing a chief
and three assistants of the tire department.
The convention will bacoinjiesed or the pres
ident and fire committee el council and three
delegates trem each tire company.
Mr, Harry Meyers bai a sunflower stalk
growing en bis let en Seuth Fifth street,
which measures 143 Inches in height. The
stalk contains ever 25 buds.
Faneral of Daniel jd cLaughlle.
The funeral of the late Daniel McLaughlin
took place from St. Mary's Catholic church
at "J a. in., te-day, and was very largely
attended. Among tlioe in the feet proces preces
sion were seen naarly all of Lancaster's most
prominent builders, and the representation
oftheseof dlllerent faith lrem the deceased
was quite large. Many members of the
Miennercher were also present. Kev. Dr.
McCullagh celebrated solenin requiem
mass, and the choir sang W.
Dressler's masn, Mhs Deyle and Miss
Bachler taking the sole jwru In ttsquHile
style. Miss Johnsten llnely rendered the
"Benedlctus." At the conclusion of the
mass Miss Bachler sang 'Angels Kver
Bright and Fair" In pathetic manner, after
which the funeral cortege wound its way te
HL Mary's cemetery, where the interment
took place.
The pall-bearers were Daniel A. Altlek, It.
J. McGrann, Michael Iteilly, Jeseph Altlek,
Jehn W. Lewell and Michael llaberbush.

Fritz Qretwald, the old Junk dealer,always

They travel with the wagon when Fritz
drives around town and are quite savage

dogs. A number of children were en the
street, and without any apj arent cause oue of
the dogs ran among and bit three of them.
Twe of them were little girls named Ktter
and Milley and a boy named Jlemley. The
wounds were promptly cauterized and are
net serious Fritz has been in trouble before
about bis dogs, yet he docs net seem te carp,
as the number never decreases.

Salts Against Insurance Companies.
J. S. Townsend te-day entered suits In the
court of common pleas against the Mutual
Fire Insurance cempauy et Chester county,
te recover $3,300 less susta lned by Mr. Town
send by the burning of his creamery at
Geshen. Mr. Townsend bad two policies In
the company aggregating 53,700, but the com
pany refuses te pay the amount et the less
for reasons which will appear when the cases
are tried.
J,M. Yickersbas entered suit against Com
monwealth Mutual Fire Insurance company,
of Columbia, te recever the full value of a
policy.

A meeting of citizens of Maner township
was held at Central Maner en Saturday nr.
ternoen, at which it was decided te organize
the Maner Mutual Fire Insurance company.

The annual campineetliip of the celcred
people was held at Kfgby, Maryland. The
crowd present was tremendous, and it In
cluded many colored folks of this etty, who
drove all the way te the camp. The Lancas
ter hucksters were present In a body, and did

Hill, yesterday, aud there was a very large
crowd present.

Sunday and returned home between 10 and

Jehn Brown, of Ne. (25 Marietta avenue,
has In his possession a button of the kind
which was shown the Heading Unite man
by a Lancaster county gentleman tome days
age. It is nf copper, about one Inch and a
quarter in diameter, lu the middle of it are
the letters " O. W.," aud around them Is the
Inscription, " Leng Live the President." Ou
the edges are the abbicvialed names of the
thirteen original states. This button was

A Curious Kgg
Samuel Derwart, of &2 1 West I.einen street,
brought te this eOlce this morning a curious
egg laid by a 'White Leghorn. It has three
cells two whites aud a yelk joined by a
thin membranous cord. The covering of tbe
whole Is a soft shell, and oneel the bulbs
greatly resembles a duckling. Mr. Derwart
will preserve it In alcohol.

and Yeung has made similar complaints
