Ills Injuries consisted of a compound fracture
et the left forearm and a severe gatb in tbe
same arm near the shoulder, lie also re
ceived a slight scalp wound in tbe back of
the head. The man was en a vinlt te Coluin
biaand was walking home en the railroad
vhen the accident happened. lie 1 a mar
rled man and his family lives at ttie farm
where he Is employed. About midnight he
was removed te the Ijuicaster hospital.
The Death lilt
Jehn If. lleflman, a well-known conductor
et the 1'ennsylvanla railroad, died at his
home, locust street, near bavenlh, en Sun
day evening. The death was the result of
typhoid fever and ether dlscasei Mr. Hoff Heff
man was a well-known resident of town, and
was a member of the Knights of the Mystic
Chain and Brotherhood of the Union. A wife
and children are left te mourn their loes.
Mrs. William Graham died very suddenly
en Sunday evening, at her home in alley If,
between Firth and Sixth streets. On last Sat
urday the lady was en a vlit te her father,
Jehn U. Fester, living en North Second
street, and in going home made a niisstep,
resulting in Injuries causing her death.
An infant daughter of Mr. Jere Kech, liv
ing en Locust street, died at its home en last
Saturday from diseases pecular te Infancy.
The Juenral took place at 5 o'clock this alter alter
neon. The funeral of the late Geerge J. Smith
took place en Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock
from his late residence en Seuth Third street,
and was very largely attended. Susquo Susque
hanna ledge. Ne. 80 et Odd Fellows-attended
the funeral et their deceased member in a
body.

that they have a right te set the poles where where

them obstruct tbe street crossings ; ethers are
set 'lewn in front et private dwellings and
Business places. In front or a dwelling
house ou Seuth Water street belong
ing te Mrs. Hethw eiler, the Kdlsen com
pany has set a big pole between a
telegraph and a telephone pole the three
poles occupying a space or less than ten feet,
aud almost entirely blockading thesldewalk,
xvhlch in this part of the htreet is only about
tour feet In width. In front of another of
Mrs. Ketbweller'a properties a pole van mt se
close te the house that the window shutters

Mrs. Kshleman made a vigorous resistance
en this invasion or her private rights, pulling
the shovels from the bauds of the workmen,

In St. Clair, Schuylkill county, en Satur
day morning about 3 o'clock, the front of the
English liapllst church was blown out by
dynamiters. This is the last of a series of
outrages, the outcemo of the nctive light
msde by the Law and Order society agslnst
violations or the liquor law. Their pretests
against many illegally kept saloons resulted
in the revocation of the llcenes. This was
lollewed eight months age by the partial de
struction of U. W. Lewis' storeand residence
and the narrow ecape of his fitnlly from
death by a dynamite explosion. Then the
society retaliated by sendlug Danlel Walker
tejall for selling without a license, ltewas
an old man. milte wealthy and owned the
only hetel In town, lie was 111 when he
wenttejall. Ills family was lsltlng Kng
land and the Imprisonment hastened his
death, which occurred three weeks age, four
days atler hl reloae.
On Saturday morning the church which
Lewis T. Jenes, cieerge W. Kerter, and
James 1. Kelly, the most active law and
orJermen, attended and which until two
weeks age had for Its pastor He. William
Owen, wne nan tne reputation et being tne
Investigator of all the society's work, was
blown up. The building st.tuds en the cor
ner et Frent aud larrell streets and hasn
seating capacity el about tle hundred. It Is
a low, Irame structure nud was crtvled tit
toen j ears age. About half.past twelve a
man was seen w lth a lantern In the rear et
the church, but nothing was thought of it
particular!', and no euu was Informed of It
until alter the ex plosien. Jut before three
o'clock men were heard running from the
scene of the explosion by another party, nut
this did net oxcite suspicion. An old gentle
man named Kech, unable te sleep en ac.

lighted end of a cigar, near the church deer,
aud ntew seconds later suddenly was thrown
en his back by the shock or a terrific explos
ion. The whole town was aroused and in a few
moments tbe neighborhood wasswarminz
with people. The dynamite, with a lichted
fuse attached, had been put in a chink uuder
the front doorstep, rertunateh, the chink
opened into the cellar, w hlch Is large and
roomy, aud wnere the worst force el the ex
plosien was lest In x acant 8ace. The front
doers and windows, the e-tlbiile and the
rear pew s w ere shattered. There was net a
building In the neighborhood but had at
least hair a dozen panes or glass broken.
Rev. Wm. Owens was Its puter ler three
years. The caue or his resignation is net
known, lie did net hie another jll and
there was no serious trouble in the congre
gation. He left immediately alter restcnlug
ter Ijjncaster county, where he isiltiug
relatives. Owen came te this county from
Chambersburg. Fer a time he w as pastor or
Colerain liaptist chur-h, but dltlerences
arose In the congregation, a sectien of it
split etr anil founded the Drumeie Baptist
church, at the Unicorn. He labored there

About one o'clock this morning a thlel en
tered the premises or William Schultze, the
leal tobacco man, re!dlngat Lime aud Wal
nut streets. An overcoat was stolen from
the balcony. S. H. Yundt, ten-ln-law of Mr
N:hultze,whe resides next deer, heard the
nele. When he went out the thief Jumped
from the balcony, and Mr. A undt tired sev
eral shots at him from a reveler. The
premises were immediately starched by se
eral persons, but they were unable te tlnd
anyone. About lour o'clock this morning
the neighbors or Mr. Schultre sjr two men
craw ling ever the fence of his yard. They
disappeared suddenly and have net jet been
seen. It Is believed that they had returned
te make a second attempt or "te secure some
thing w men tncy had left beuiml.

Saturday night was a geed ene for horse
thieves in the vicinity of Litltz. About tnld
night two stables were entered ami two
teams vvere stolen. The following Is a de
scription el the stolen teams : A brown
horse, 5 jears old, white spot en no, right
hind feet has bar shoe en it. This horse was
hitched te a Cballle bugcy. The second
team stolen vt as a dark brown horse with
white iet en right hand feet, side bar buggy
vv lth neck running gear. This horsy pai.es or
trots. The team stolen belonged te .Samuel
11 Miller and C. Hlnkly. The above de
scription was sent te the ellce tutheritles of
all cities ;in Eastern 1'ennsvlvania. The
teams, it was learned yesterdav, were driven
northward from Lltitz.

Rebert Presberry, living en North Market
street, this city, for ra', and against

Llllie, it appears, was uu inmate et Pres
berry's house, and two weeks ae while Mrs.
Presberry was absent the alleged eilense
waa committed. The girl inform
ed Mrs. Pressberry of what had
occurred, and says that Mrs. Pneberrv had
accused her of leading her liuibiiul a'stray,
and assaulted her.

agricultural fair had an extended session to
day and agreed upeu judges of tbeditlerent

will be nouble exhibits of this jear's dis
