The Noerdland left Antwerp en tbe 15th
ntant Tbe Belgian newspaper, about the
10th Instant, said that the lady'a modesty
would net permit her te engage passage en
one of the Liverpool steamers. MIm I'ol I'el I'ol
eem, her mother and uncle. Ilenjamln, left
Paris ier Liverpool punctually te sail en the
Hervia, Hut the excitement ever the re
ceipt of the various cablegrams was se in
tense that the pregramme wasaltered, and
after going halfthe Journey towards Liver
pool, Miss Folsom considered It prudent te
turn back. This ehe did, reaching Ant
werp a few days before the departure
el the Noerdland. 7 he railway train
which carried tbe majority el the porsensl
effects of the bride lert Paris before Miss
Folsein departed in the limited passenger
express, with the resnlt that when Mr.
Folsom endeavored te step their dellvery
at Liverpool, he found it was iinpos.il iinpes.il
si bio. These trunks contain all the bride's
trousseau. They were sent out by another
steamer. The lisggage which aocempanled
tbe party ever en tbe Noerdland consisted
or six trunks. Upen reaching Antwerp tbe
United 8 tales Censul presented himself le
Miss Folsom and mother and bade them
welcome te tils residence Mr. Folsom went
te a hotel. They accepted his invitation and
remained his guests until tbe steamer left.
While awaiting this the Folsems were intro
duced te Mrs. F. Marslly, the sister-in-law of
the Belgium agent ter the Ited .Star line. It
was the latter individual who made all the
necessary preparations for tbe homeward
triV. He Insisted that they should have h
geed guide toescertthem across the Atlantic,
and tbe result of this was that Mrs. Marslly
accompanied the Folsems te these shores.
About live hours after leaving the Light of
Flushing astern, tbe Noerdland rushed head
Ilml Inte a violent gale. The wind came up
ltli frightful vehemence from tbe west,
created a very hlith and daucereus cress sea.
The Noerdland is a grand Bea vcmb), but this
storm was tee much ter her. Time after time
the huge waves would strike her aide, caus
ing her te pitch and roll like a leg. Mlsa
Folsom waa the first one te be attaeked bv
sea sickness. It was very alight at first, but
by noontime of tbe ICth she had te give way
aud went te her cabin. The ship's surgeon
paid her mere than usual attention, but it
was the night et the 20th before she had suf
ficiently recovered te leave her berth. Tbe
weather for tbe most part of tbe voyage was
very unfavorable for deck promenade., and
at the advice of Mrs. Marslly Miss Folsom
and mother confined tbemselveseltber te tbe
esloen or their cabins. The remainder of tbe
pissage was uneventful.
'i'iie baggage, which was taken enyby the
chandler, consisted of six pieces three
trunks, two boxes and n willow basket. Twe
or the former were very large. One was
about lour feet in length and three leet in
huiuliL It had a brown covering and brass
fastenings. The ethor had a gray linen
coverlng. There were two large red cresses
minted en them ene en each end mid an
Kngllsli railway label. Alter tbe Noerdland
had been decked at the Ited Star line pier In
Jersey City, a number of persons went en
beard and begged Chief Steward Gough for
the privilege or taking anything which Miss
Folsom might have lett in her cabin. They
sucreeded iti getting a veil, which theycut
into a hundred pieces.
Te a reporter Mrs. Owens, the stewardess,
in speaking of Miss Folsom, said : " She Is a
beautiful woman. She treated me as if I
were n traveling companion. At the con
cert, which was given en beard Wednesday
evening, she did net participate in the Blug
lug or reading, but sat alongside of her
mother with a keen interest for everything
that was going en. Captain J. Cediuan, a
Husten sea captain, composed a poem about
the sea for the steamship company's monthly
paer, and she liked it se Wbll that she re
quested Captain Nickels te procure for her a
copy of the words. We have had seme line
passenger en the Noerdland, but for beauty
aud dignity none te equal Miss Folsom."
Second Olllcer Nelsen, speaking en the
stme subject, grew quite olerjuont and said :
"She is a tall, handsome woman with a mm.
mandfug presence. We officers are net dis-
Fesed te knew who Is en beard the vessel,
myself did net learn of the presence or our
distinguished tourists for seme days alter
we le! t Antwerp. There were about seven tv tv
flve first-class passengers en beard, but
which waa Miss Folsom I did net knew.
Hut when they told me the president's in
tended bride was en beard I picked her out
en the instant. Hew? Why, by her line
stately bearing. I knew sbe was just
such a woman whom the head or a great
country likethis would solect for a partner."
One of tbe cabin passengers of the Noord Neord Noerd
land, who became acquainted with Miss Fol Fel Fol
fcem during tbe voyage said :
'She Is certainly a very charming and
dignified girl, and cannot tall te be highly
thought of and admlred wherever she may
be." J
The reporter' informant was net In
clined te talk upon the subject further, but
tinallycenllrmed the truth et the description
of Miss iolBemtliat she is tall, handsome,
with a very clear complexion, slightly bru
nette j that she has blue eyes, large and beau
tllul, with long lashes, and that her manner
is trank and wlunlmr, and remarkably free
