was and found him sitting en the platform
of the car, with his ieet en another car. The
brakeman told him that he was sitting in a
very dangerous position, and after a few
minutes conversation discovered that he was
the man who had been In Columbia engrav
ing watches. Wise had heard of the
then before the train len town
and after a closer Inspection dis
covered that the man was wearing the
stolen clothing. Upen the arrival of the train
at Farkesburg the officers were notified of
the occurrence and by some iiianuvering
en the part of Offleer Lewry, ei that town,
the thief -was seen placed under arrest.

Disturbing a Sleeting.
As the armory Is being occupied by a
church fair, the Salvation Army In town are
holding their meetings In a lraiue colored
church en Union street. During the pro
gress of the meetlDg en last Suuday evening
the services were very much disturbed by
some men. Complaint was entered at the
ofliee of 'Squire Evans, against Michael
Fllnn and Jehn Weaver, for causing the dls
tarbance. Last evening these men had n
hearing and were compelled te pay the costs
of the suit

During yesterday alternoeu, Charles llo lle llo
gentegler, a young -boy or about fourteen
years of age, was out en the river below the
dam, in a canoe. While poling the beat
across a rough place the pole slipped from
his grasp and he was thrown Inte the water.

Town Notes.
Frank Jenes and company appeared in the
opera heusellast night in "SI Porkinser The
Girl I Left Behind Me," belere a very geed
audience. Frem the frequent laughter mid
applause the performance appeared te please
the audience. The music of the band and
orchestra was very fine.
On next Monday, May 24th, Cbippeta
Castle, Ma 68, Knights or the Gelden Eagle,
will go te Philadelphia and participate in n
parade of that order in that city.
The shad lishlug is slowly improving, al
though net as geed as it should be. The
flsh are very large and geed prices are readily
obtained.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Themas, at one time
residents of C'eluinlili, but new living at

ing house by the way of the reef.

The fair for the benefit of the Khlghts of
hu .lonnattue Lancaster rink was well at

Mrs. Clara O. Reed, wile or Frank Heed
daughter or Mrs. Hosa Jehns and niece et
Mrs, W. W. Brown, Ji'e. K5 Xerth Duke
street, died at her home w 1th the last named
lady te-day, after a long period of 111 health.
Bhe was a very accomplished and amiable
young lady, with a wide circle of friends In
Lancaster society. Her funeral will take
place en Saturday at 3 p. m., at bt, James 1'.
