Bayard T. Leckard, yard man of the Penn
sylvania railroad, was engaged in turning a

Tobacco Journal containing a statement that
trade in this business was very dull in Col
umbia and that union prices were net paid
ler tbe manufacturing et cigars. The tobacco
dealers in town say that this statement Is an
untruth and that the trade compares favor
ably with ether towns, and that union prices
are paid for the making of cigars.

Charles Bhulmyer, a young druggist whose

near Lemen, made a narrow escape from
death this morning. He had lest much sleep
and was lu a very nervous condition In conse
quence. Having been called up about 3 o'clock

te bed and wishing te get some sleep
took a narcotic, which In his enfeebled con.

waltiug until 8 o'clock aud being unable te

apparently dead. Mrs. Kerfoot and ethers
hastened te his bedside clapped bisbanda and

was seut for, and administered proper re

regained consciousness, and by ten o'clock
was out et danger. Had bis condition net

alderman held the meu for trial at court. Sny Sny
derturnished bail and Hoever wascemmitled.
Alter the chicken case tbe two prisoners were

charged with burglary by J. H.Lemau, resld resld
ingatCamarge,ndcn township. Itwasalleued
that en the night of Ne ember 25, 16S3.
Snyder and Hoever broke into Leman's
house from which tbev stele a large quantity
el meat, butter, Ac. It was lurther claimed
Ibat the men used a horse belonging te Mr.
Leman te haul the goods te this city. On
the way the team was abandoned and after
wards recovered. After a partial hearlug
the case was continued until Friday after
noon when a decision will be gieu.

young but well known farmer, el" near Hin Hin Hin
klotewn, died en Sunday morning of con
sumption. His funeral took place yesterday
from his late resldene, and was attended by
a large concourse of people, ever two huu
dred carriages being lu the funeral precession.
Mr. 'elt was a member of tbe Mennenite
church, "and the services were conducted by
Bishop Martin, assisted by Klias Nelt, Jehn
Zimmerman, David Buck waiter andTJosepb
Wcnger. Interment at Grelfdale. The de
ceased was aged 29 years.
E. Hurkhelder, cenveyancer, of Farmors Farmers
viile, left yesterday morning for Omaha

will try his luck In the streams of the West.
