On Saturday afternoon Samuel Heffman,
Peter Wanner, Philip Try and some ether
man while engaged in repairing a broken
raft, along the Susquehanna rlver, In Martle
township, beyond Pequea station, en the Co
lumbia & Pert Deposit railroad, found the
Bedy of a child in the river. They brought
it te shore and telegraphed for Corener Hona Hena
man. He went down Sunday and held an
inquest The body was that of a male while
enfld, about six years old, and had no cloth
ing en except a waist The body bore every
evidence or having been in the water for hov hev
aval weeks. The supposition Is that the child
was drowned at some point up the rher, and
'was carried down by the current The
coroner cut the buttons from the
Waist and will keep them, hoping they
will lead te tbe identification of the

The storm en Saturday afternoon was ery
severe in the city and county. The wind
was very high and before the rain began the
dust from the dirty streets was blown ever
town In clouds. These who were unfortunate
enough te be out at the time were almost
blinded by the dirt The fall of rain was also
very heavy. Considerable damage as done
at different places. A large number of trees
were blown down, and among them was a
very fine apple troe en the property occupied
by Charles V. Kckert en East King street
The large iron smoke stack attached te the
engine at the county prison was blown down
and broken te pieces. During the storm
Wlnfield S. Hayes, a prlsoner in Jail await
ing trial, was taken with epileptic tits, which
continued at intervals during the night He
wasattonded by Dr. itebrer and Is doing
very well. It is supposed that the tits were
superinduced by a terrific clap of thunder.
Benjamin V. Hamisli, of East Lampeter
township, Is a heavy loser by the storm. His
tobacco shed SI by 'X loot was blown down
and is a total wreck. The reef of his corn
crib was blown oil ntul carried a distance of
150 feet Strange te say It was net much
broken.
During the storm the wires of the city fire
department were atlecled by the lightning,
causing tbe alarm te strike. Although the
engines were out thelr services were net
needed.
Part of the reef of the barn of Leepold
Ulrlch, living s miles south of Intorceurso,
was blown oil en Saturday afternoon.
Mie Kleped in a Schooner.
Mrs. Springer and Capt Petersen, who
eloped from Philadelphia In the captain's
schooner, the Three Brethers, bound for East
Greenwich, B. I., are probably en the bound
ing billens of the Atlantic. The pursuit,
began by the woman's father, William Gar
rison, and her husband, Capt Sprlnger, in the
tug Eensingteu, has been abandeued and the
two men hae returned te their home near
Cape May, When they left Camden with a
lawyer and constable, armed with a warrant
for the arrest of the couple, they declared
that the' would keep up the chase te Nar
ragausett bay, if necessary. They steamed
down tbe Delaware as far as Chester, and by
that time their ardor had cooled somewhat

that the schooner was several hours ahead of
them. Then they turned about The cap

have the couple arrested en their arrival in

Teung Weeds Fight.
Among the cases disposed of this morning
were two drunks and two diserderlies. One
of the drunks paid, the second, Michael
Kelly, an old etlender, was sent out for five
days. The diserderlies were two young
bleeds et the tow n. They bad a quarrel
about a girl at the skating rink en Saturday
evening, and met yesterday afternoon in the
avenue leading te the Catbelia cemetery.
They stripped te the waist and were en-
faged in a scientific encounter when Officer
telllyputin an apparance. They paid no
attention te the efilcer and he took held of
them and marched them te tbe station house.
This morning the mayor dlacharged them
upon payment of costs.

Albert It Delchler died en Sunday evening
at his home, Ne. 143 East Lemen street, et

year of his age. Deceased was a son or Max
Delchler, the well known shoemaker en
North Queen street He was a very bright
young man and was graduated at the high
school, or this city, en the 2Sth or June, ISTi
He afterwards went te Philadelphia w here he
became en gaged with a firm or Heur and
grain dealers and remained with them
several years. Upen leaving this llrui he
embarked In business for himself, lie
moved te this city with hl family about a
month age. Although he had been In bad

after his arrival In Lancaster anil his death

ren. Deceased was a:pepuiar young man
and was w ell-known In Philadelphia, as will
us through the eutire eastern part or the
state.

and his character and worth as a citizen were

heldattbat place. Mr. Scott was Bn active
man for his age until last Monday when he
was stricken by paralysis, irem which he
died en Thursday. He was a very zealeus
Democrat and never missed an election. Fer

ship. He leaves four sons, Michael, Patrick,

Mrs. Sarah Bailey, mother of Mrs. A. A.
Pegau, of Safe Harber, died en tbe 22nd Inst,
and was burled en Sunday at 9 o'clock, at
tbe Mennonlte meeting house, Hirer Cerner,
near Safe Harber. She was a pensioner of
tbe late war. Her son, Geerge 11. Bailey
belonged te company U, of the lJ2d regiment,
and was killed At the battle or Chancellors Chancellers

The funeral of Geerge Weber Bete took
place this morning from tbe residence of bis
aunt, Mrs. Tbeniae, en East King street
The remains were taken te St Mary's
Catholic church, where a requiem mass was
celebrated. Tbe interment was made at St
Jeseph's cemetery. Eight companions, fel
low school mates or St Mary's parochial
school, were the pall-bearers.
Funeral of a Soldier.
Sunday afternoon tbe funeral of Linten
Kudy took place from his residence, Ne.
CCG Maner street, and it was very largely at
tended. Among these present were the
members of Geerge H. Themas, Pest 84,
Ne. SI, Grand Army of the Republic, who
were accompanied by a drum corps. The
services at the house were conducted by
Kev. W. F. Llchliter, and the Interment was
made at the Lancaster cemetery.

ciate editor of the Cincinnati Commercial

his oft-expressed desire. In charge of friends

A committee of the Baltimore Cremation
company, consisting (of Frank H. Hamble Hamblo
ten, Jehn It Kenneus, Jehn W. Middendorf
and O. W. Lehman, came evor te Lancaster
te-day te witness the cremation and te decide
en which system the Baltimore furnace will
be erected.
The Tep et a Chnrch Steeple Fired.
The most peculiar fire that has ever oc
curred In Uarrlsburg was the result of a
stroke of lightning eti Saturday afternoon.
During a thunder storm and heavy rain
ball-lightning struck tbeextreme point of the
steeple en tbe Market Sriuare Presbyterian
church, the most lefty edifice or its Kind In
tbe city. On tbe top or the Bteeple was an
ornamental kueb, which Immediately caught
fire, and was extinguished with great dtll
culty. The lecu was t-2,000.

Geerge Fergusen has been held before
