The horse and wagon bolenglng te Chris

Fred Bucher, yesterday afternoon. Becom
ing frightened the horse began bauklng teaml
fro and at lastsucceeded In breaking the pest

loose he ran up Locust street at a rapid gait
with the pest hanging about his legs. The
horse was captured alter running a few
squares. Ne ttamage was received by clther
the horse or wagon.

Jeseph Heffman, who was arrested en last
Friday, for stealing cigars from Henry
, Eberly, at Durlach, had a hearing this morn
tag at SqalreE vans'. Mr. Eberly was pres
ent and testllled that en the night of the 8th
of June, a man was seen prowling about the
atore. In the morning 2,200 cigars wero
missing. The party stealing thorn had llrst
onterod the basoment of the stere, but net
being able te get up stairs, get n ladder and
in this manner made an entrance into the
soceud story. The cigars wero hid In e coal
bin at a brick school house near the stere, and
were taken 1,000 atK time and sold through
out the country. The man could net be
identltled by Mr. Eberly, but as the cigars
were In his possession and he had admitted

In the election last evening of Prof. R. K.
Buelirle mtporintendent of the schools of this

J. T. Valentine, of Reading,haU been chosen,

taught for three years previous te his elec
tion. At the meeting or the Reading school
beard last evening Mr. Valentine tendered
his resignation te rolievo the beard from em.

nomination for Mr. Valontlne's successor.
Frostdent Eckert said that the election would
be te 1111 the unoxpired term of three years
one year and a txirtlen of a year having been
served by Mr. Valentine. A letter was read
