'&-i The repeated warnings that have been
given te the boys that go in swimming from
IV' the rafts along the river shore, have never
f been heeded by the boys who paid no atten-
tien te the emcers, and still persisted in nam
ing in direct violation of the borough ordi
nance which prohibits such practices between
the hours of sun-rlse and sun-set Yester
day afternoon eniccr Wlltlck, finding that
the warnings were net lieeueu, was deter
mined te make an example of the boys who
could be caught bathing. lie found out that
some boys were in swimming en the rafts at
the loot of Union street. A number of the
boys escaped although the elllcer succeeded
in capturing llve who wero In the river.
They were taken te the ofllce of Squire
Evans for a hearing. The boys gave thelr
names as lollews: Giant Heyd, 17 yearseld ;
Harry Hall, 17 years; Harry Baten, 15 years;
ferry Moere, i years aim .ion n Andersen,
11 years. Moero and Andersen wero colerod

a case of very singular stealing of seme of the
railroad property. A colored woman has
been seen opening the liexes surrounding
the car axle and talcing from the liexes the
cotton waste, saturated with oil, used for
lubricating purposes. What the woman's
idea of stealing this stuR'er the ure te which

An Observatory lit Kphrala.

Mr. D. S. Ven Neida, the proprietor ei the
Ephreta Mountain Springs hotel, at Ephrnta,
has at present a large forceof hands cmployed
in building an observatory that will stand
nearly 600 feet above the lovel et the grade of
the surrounding country, and will- com cem
mand an unobstructed view or the adjacent
territory as far as the eye is capable or seelng.
The obsorvatery occupies the site of the old
one that was blown down by a wind storm
about twelve years age, and is en the ox ex
trerae summit or the Ephrata mountain.
