A total of 89,090 cars have been hauled for
June, a decrease from May, 188T, of 10,088
cars, but an incrcase evor June, 1831, of 5,121
cars.

per cent lower. Shortly after tlie opening of

pany had withdrawn from the combination
with New Jersey Central. This caused n shArp
selling of the latter company's stock, and by
10:30 tlie stock bad declined i; per cent. Aueut
11 o'clock Lackawanna was actively bid up by
the clique, which cauned a rush te cover, mid
prices took an upward turn, fully recovering

Calvin R. SIgle, of BIrd-lu-Haud, East
Lampeter township, is n son of our well
known fellow citizen, Jehn Hlgle, tobacco
and general dealer. He has been in the
business of cigar manufacturing, which he
new closes out, and though ene of the
youngest members of tbe new ferce, is a
bright, intelligent young man, of Democratle
family and profession ; and be will no doubt
keep the administration of hN place up te tbe
standard of his predecessor, Tlies. Mcuewan.

Fer the chief place in Yerk county, new
held by A. J. Stable, tbe new collector will
appoint Mr. Adam F. Geesey,w he Is a citizen
of Yerk borough. IIe Is 43 years of age ; for
merly was a merchant of Dallastown. He
scrved in the 103d Fa. regiment during tbe
war, nnd subsequently whs treasurer and
later deputy treasurer of Yerk county, In
both of which positions he discharged his
official duties with rare fidelity aud ability.
When he took held of the county treasury
there was a debt off 205,000, and during the
six years of his administration this was en
tirely paid oil". Fer the last tl ve years he has
been chairman of the Democratic county com
mittee of Yerk and there is no better organi
zation in the state than that or which be has
been the head during this time by practically
unanimous consent
Jehn S. Ulestaud, of Spring Garden town
ship, Yerk county, who is te succeed II. M.
Davis as ene of the Yerk county deputies, is
a farmer and a man of 48 years of uge. He
has long been one of tbe party " war horses"
in Yerk and is ene ei the most popular
Democrats in the county, having been elected
register in 1877. He enjoys the high osleom
