On Saturday last a German named Jehn
Helss, In the employ of Jeseph II. Walker,
of Christiana, brought te this city for his em
ployer alead of tobacco which he left, as direct
ed, at the tobacco warehouse of E. Heffman it
Sen, and recoived iu payment of the same
tl57. -Asllelssdld net return Mr. Walker
wrete a letter te Win. Cooper, of the Coepor
hotel, making Inquiry about him. It was
ascertained that he left the team at the
Serrel Ilorse hotel, after disposing of the
tobacco, since which tlme nothing has been
heard of him, and it is believed he lias
skipped. He is described as a German, about
fifty years old, with dark comploxien and
black moustache. IIe spcaksbroken English
and may easily be known by the forefinger
of his right hand which has been badly
mutilated and is partly attached te the
middle' finger. Mr. Walker thinks Helss
will endeavor te get back te Germany with
the stolen money.

get loud. A pel lce officer was sent for and
Olllcer Roadman, who is always anxious te
make an arrest (or a dollar,) yanked the
fellow te the lock-up, whero he refused te
give ids name. The men in the stere stated
that they only wanted the man put out and
did net care te have him arrested. There
was no money iu this for tbe officer, and it is
likely that before tbe countryman is allowed
te go It will cost him as much for the law suit
as it did for the suit of clothes.
