pesed robbery occurred en his train and had
seen tbe large man, Davidsen, act very sus
piciously. The conductor also testified that
another passenger, name unknown, had
claimed te be rebbed en the train but had
left tbe train at Ilellam, saying that he could
net be present but could Identify the robber.
, 'Squire Frank thought that this evidence
was sufficient te held the prisoners for a
further hearing and they wcre taken te Yerk
en tne 820 p. in. train.
The arrest was made in Columbia, as the
railroad company have no pollce in Yerk
county. ". ..

ner as pastor of St. Jehn's Lutheran church
took place last eventng. The prcsident of the
conference, Rev. F. P. Mayser, of Lancaster,
Was present and preached tlie installation
sermon, and conducted the ethor Bervlces,
assisted by Revs. Miller, of Marietta, and
Darmstetter, of Columbia. The church was
handsomely decorated for the occasion.
The Sunday school ei St l'aul's V. K.
church observed a beautiful, as well as an
ancient, custom yesterday afternoon at 1:30
o'clock. The service consisted of gifts of
fruits and flowers. This Sunday school will,
during the summer months, held its sessions
at 0 a. m. Instead et 130 p. w.

Henry Armstrong was sent te the county
Jail by Squire Evans for live days for being
drunk and disorderly. He was urrosted en
Saturday evening, remained in the lock-up
all Sunday and was taken te Lancaster this
morning. He is a nen-resident of town.
In order te make some neccssary changes
at the Keeley stove works the meulders at
that place stepped work en last Saturday.

Mr. Jacob Snyder succoedod In catching

Several hatches were blown off the canal
beats at the Columbia wharves by the heavy

Bate Ball.
A large crowd was present te soe the game
of base ball betwoen the home club and the
Nameless, of Lancaster. A clese and excit
ing contest was oxpected, but tlie parties
present wero sadly dlsappointed. The game
terminated at the end of the sixth inning in
order te allow the visitors te go home at ft
o'clock. King, of the Columbia team, pitched
a geed game, striking out twelve men. The

less, 7.
Larceny and Embezzlement.
Isaae Pilaumer was arrested en complaint
of Jehn K. Sebum, who charges hhu with
embezzlement and larceny. It appears that
Pflaumer was superintendent of a mill for
the manufacture of coverlets and blankets,
near Byorstewn, this county; and he is
charged by Schum with embezzling about
500 in rnoney and about 150 In blankets,
Ac. The acoused gave bail for a hearing
before Alderman Spurrier at 10 o'clock en
Tuesday morning.

A Fermer Lancastrian's Big Verdict.
Peter 8, McTague, of Camden, N. J., re
covered en Saturday In the court of com
mon pleas of Montgomery county, a verdict
of 134,489.24 against his fertier partner, Pat
rick Rehlll. In the business of railroad con
tracting. The transactions cevered a period
often years. Tbe trial lasted six days. Judge
Albright, or Lehigh county, presided.

Ilnm Struck by Lightning.
On Thursday ovening about 0 o'clock a
barn belonging te e.t-Slicrill'Strlne, situated
In Martic township, near Rawlinsville, was
struck by lightning. The electric current
entered tlie cupola, ran down a rafter te the
caves, shattering the rafter and knocking the
shingles rrem the reef; then ran along a
heavy timber te the barn deer, which Is
swung en an iron roller, aud the lightning
made its exit by bursting two or three beards
rrem the deer. Notwithstanding tlie severity
or the streke the bam was net set en tire.
