Death of a Lancastrian In the Senthnett.
Themas J. Dewney, of Abilene, Kansas,
was murdered by herdsmen en his father's
ranche at Cotulla, Demmltt county, Texas.
The murdered man was only about 18 years
of age. His father is a brether of the late
David Dewney, of Lancaster, and his rela
tives are well-knewn in this city.

' We have just received a few particulars
of the herrible murdoref Themas J.JJowney,
at Cotulla, Demmitt county, Terns. It seems
that Themas Downey, sr., and Themas J.
Dewney, his son, had been stationed at
Cotulla for some time, and as the spring
clipping was ever and little work te be done,
Themas Dewney, sr., made known his Inten
tion of going back te his home iu Ablloue,
leaving his son iu cbarge of the ranclu He
had only gene aa far as San Antonie, when
the news reached him of the murder of his
seu by the Mexican herdsmen in their em
ploy. He hastily returned te Cotulla, only
te find the news te be true. The murdered
Isjy was only 18 years old, and was buried in
San Antonie.";
Ne cause is assigned for the mnrder. We
loam from Mr. Charles E. Dewney, of Lan
caster, that this is the secend murder iu the
Downey family in Texas by the sheep bord
ers in tueir employ. Mr. Sam'l Downey, who
led Lancaster about twonty-feeven years age
te engage in shoep-ralslng, and who carried
en the business oxteuslvoly and successfully
for many years, was murdered by his herds
man en the 13th of January, 1871), en the
same ranch en which the rccent murder was
committed. After his murder his brether,
Dr. J. B. Dewney, loll Lancaster for
Texas te leek after the Interests of the estate
The ostate was divided, and iu the settlement
ene part of it foil te Dr. Dewney, who Is still
living upon it at Carrizo Springs. The jxr jxr
tien of the ostate belonging te the ether heirs
passed into the management of Themas
Dewney, sr., his brether, then and new liv
ing at Abllone, Kansas. Koceiilly he took
Willi him te Texas his seu, Themas J. Dow Dew Dew
eoy, te assist In the management et the
ranch, and he was murdered its abeve stated.
The ranch is quite nil extensive ene, ami
last year Uiore wero upon it from 8,000 te
10,000 head of shcep.

Butler, aged forty-four. He died within
twenty-four hours alter the ceremony. The

bride of a day and her brother, Mr. F. W.
Butler, and was burled en Wednesday after
noon. Since the Interment a will el Mr. Beed
has been produced, which bequeathes te the

has been a dutiful son te his mother, new
eighty years old, and that he should virtually
turn her penniless from home, scorned be

Attorney Baldwin, who has been retained
te prosecute the case, said that the will and
the marrlage were transparent frauds and
that he had sufficient documentary and oral
evidence te establish the fact that the imbe
cility of the dead merchant had been taken
advantaae of by the parties intorested for
sinister purposes, The will It-self is a peculiar
document having been tern iu pieces and
then pasted together. It describes the prop

little doubt that it was prepared by an insane
man, or by someone net conversant with

Mrs. Lelda Mtisscr, wife or Dr. J. Henry
Musser, died of lock-jaw at the family resl-

persen, symptoms of tetanus, or lock-jaw,
