All the members of the Columbia school
beard met in President Oiven's olllce last
evening, and n special meeting was held. It
'had been called for the purpose of consider
ing the collection of school taxes ngainst ton ten
ants and Bingle men. After a full discussion
and examination of the law en the matter,
the beard unanimously decided te act as fol fel fol
eows: Te place the tax duplli-.ite of 188-1
Inte the hands of 'Hqulre J. I. Frank,
with Instructions te proseeuto all delin
quents, without distinction, te the full extent
el thelaw. Counsel will be employed by
the beard te prosecnte their claims. Thfs
action will cause soveral bundled warrants
te be issued, as there Is a large uumboref
delinquents. The law en the matter is se
vere, the penalty for non-payment of school
taxes, in case goods or chattels cannot be at
tached, reads. "Imprisoned in the county
-"prison until the amount shall lm e been paid
or Becured te be paid, or until nthorwise ills
charged by due ceurse of law.
Adjourned Meeting of Council.
Council, met in an adjourned session in
council chamber last evening. On motion
the deg erdinance, published in the Intih.

been a seurce of much anuoyance te council,
was adopted as read.
The school beard was granted the free ue
of the onera house, for the 27th InsL. In held
thelr high school commencement.
Mr. Tllle presented a formal report of the
preposition of the Columbia Gas company,
which is as fellows :
The present contract betuccn the
company and council, ler lighting the streets,
expires en July 2, 1885. By this contract,
the borough pays ?12 per lamp per annum.
The company Is willing te cnter into new
contract with the borough, but asks $10 per
lamp per annum. Their preposition will
probably be rejocted. Alter discussing the
matter thoroughly, it was roferrod te the gas
commlttee with full power te act.
iThe sanitary commlttee reported having
sent Goe, Jacksen, colored, of Tew Hill, te
the county hospital. Jacksen had been ill for
two years, and his condition was such as te
cause great uneasiuess te his neighbors.

yesterday in the person of Henry Gantz, from

although Gantz also threatened him witii the

Probably the largest shad caught in the
Susquehanna rlyer this year, was that of yes
terday by Isaac ijhultz, of Washington
borough. It weighed 4 pounds and was
sold te Harry Shell, of Columbia.

painter by the Pennsylvania railroad for
many years, met with an accident at Imdis Imdis
ville this morning. He was nt work en the

root. His hip was injured and he received an

train. They were taken before Alderman
McConemy by whom they wero committed
te the county prison for ten days each.
