Robet t C. Iiewry, or New Yerk, and Messrs.
M. T. Goldslmreugli and Oswald Tilghnian,
of Tullxil county, are preparing te go into
the buslness en a large scale of raising diamonds-back
terrapins for market. The place
selected for the terrapin f.inn Is aroveor
pond en Mr. Ooldsberougli's East Aven
farm, in Oxford Neck, at the mouth ofTrlp efTrlp
ple's creek. The pond contains ene aero,
and at high tlde the water in it is six feet
deep. Tiie lioUeni Is soft, oozy mud ever
much of the pond, just such n place
as a terapin delights in when he wants
te go into winter quarters. The pond
has been inclesed with a strong nnd
perfectly tight beard fonce all nreunil it, ex
cept at the gateways. The main gatontthe
mouth of tiie H)iid is eleven feet wide, and Is
strongly made of birs of Iren placed clese
together. Through this the tlde ebbs and
Howsfiem and into the pond. YVhorevor
the fence cresses a muddy place the bottom
has been shect piled with beards te keep the
terrapins from burrowing under and te pre
vent the Intrusion or muHkrats. A beach of
sand will be made en ene side of the pond
as a nesting place for the terraplns. Tills
sand beach will be built se high that it will
net be overflowed by the highest tides, and
will shelve tlew n en nn easy lncllne te the
water, se that the terraplns will have no dilll
cully in crawling up le lay their eggs In the
sand. A nursery w 111 be laid oil in a portion
of the pond, and Inte this the young terra
pins will be put ns seen as hatched. Here
they will be sale from the old terraplns,
whose habit It is te eat the young. When a
year old they will be taken Irem the nursery,
branded and put into the pond. A liouse has
been built for the overseor of the terrapin
pond.
