I'lnnofreck last evening for drunkenness
and disorderly conduct, took him te the
station hoube and handed him ever te the
officer en duty. Fiunofreck was net searched
nnd was locked in a cell by Turnkey Shcnck.
A few minutes after Fiunofreck was locked
up, Sclicnck had occasion loge te Finno Finne
frock's cell, and he was startled en seeing a
peel of bleed in front of him. He hastily
epened the deer and Fiunofreck told him
he had tried te take his llfe. The weapon
used was a razor, which he had in his pocket,
nnd which should bave been taken from
him when he was locked up. Gushes wero
cut in both wrists and en the rlghtslde of the
neck. Dr. Reland was summoned te dress
the wounds. An examination showed that
they were net dangerous. Fiunefreck
threatens te take hislile the first opportunity
he gets.

the Borough Scheel Names of the Trees
That Were Planted.

Columbia, April 17.
"Arber Day" was well eelobrated in
Columbia, and the credit is due te the etllcers
of the school beard, pupils, teachers and su
perintendent of the public schools of this
borough. The schools took their designated
places promptly, nnd precisely at 3 p. in., the
high and grammar schools, headed by the
Columbia cernet band moved down
Clterry street te Third. On Cherry street
. -the Tilth street, Cherry strcet and Pop
lar streets schools fell into the line
el precession, which marched ever Third te
Locust, up Locust te tlie institute grounds,
which wero ontcred and encircled, eacli
school gathering around a hele, into which
was placed a sycamore tree. In and around
the grounds had collected a crowd of peeple,
which numbered fully 5,000 ; tlie scholars
numbcicd about 1,400. At the sound of the
bugle tlie following programme was enacted :

Sliss Jennie G. Bachmau, daughter el J. B.
Bachman. in 1870 planted the soed for a tree
in her father's yard, en Seuth Second street.
In 1680 she graduated from the Columbia
high school ; a year age she died. The seed
planted nine years age sprouted and became
a tree. It was taken from her father's yard,
and yesterday planted in tlie institute
grounds by her classmates.

Six rafts passed Columbia down tlie river
this morning. Tlie river is said te be iu ex
cellent rafting condition.
Instead of using the scallbld scheme te
haul sand from tlie river te his sand pens,
T. J. Clenper has had railroad tracks laid
between tnese two places, and will haul sand
en small wirs expressly for the purpose.
The Metropolitan rink will re-epen June
1st, instead el Scptomber.
A daughter of Sirs. Slary A. Wagner was
the recipient of a birthday party last oven even
