Rew II. li Kiles, In his report fi ein the
Yerk church, stated that the vencrable Sam
uel Small, of Yerk, was new ery ill, and by
roquest, Rev. .Crawford led the presbytery in
prayer In his behalf.
The cominlltce en narrative, was ordered
te take note of the decease of nil elders in the
presbytery in connection with the narra
tive. Revs. IL E. Niles, S. A. Martin ami J. P.
Barbour wero appointed a commlttee of con
ference' with the Carllsle presbytery, with
refoienco te the transfer of churches en the
borders el the respective presbyteries, and
the stated clerk was directed te transmit this
action te the Btated clerk of the Carllsle pros pres pros
bytery, by telegram, with a vlew tohavea
commlttee for similar purpese appointed.
The next meeting of the Westminster pres
bytery will be held at New Harmony.
The committee en organizing the llanover
church ropertod having attended te tbeir
duties. The lopert was accepted ami the
church ourellod.
The matter of ordaining L. F. Urew n a
licentiate or the Westminster presbytery,
who intends te enter in the Huntingdon
district, was referred te a cotninitteo who
wero te report this morning.

tendance at this meeting.

WEDNESDAY FORENOON 8ESSION.
After devotion, reading of minutes, Ac., the
report en home mission work witidn the
boundaries of the presbytery, was prosented
by Rev. Dr. Stewart The churches at
Wrlghtsville, Stewartstewn, Strasbunr,
Memerial in Lancaster, and Menegbtm in
Hanover, wero roceiumendod te the be.itd
of home mission for aid. It was also recom
mended that a missionary be employed te
labor in Lebanon and vicinity. The entire
report was accorded.
A call from the Memerial church In Lan- I
Thompson, was read, found in order and
placecttn. the hands of Mr. Thompson and by
- hinfaeeeptcd. It was roceiumendod that the
installation be en April 20, at 7.30 p. in., and
that Dr. Mitchell should preach tiie sermon
and deliver the charge te the pastor ; Rev. K.
AV. Gaylerd will deliver the charge te the
congregation.
The overtures from the general assembly
werothen taken up as the report of the com
mittee appointed at the last meeting of the
presbytery, and all the overturcs en the
Boek of Dlscipllue wero approved. Twe
overtures en judicial commissions were an-
awered hi the negative. The evertures en
reduced representation were answered In the
negative, as they de net sufllciently rodtice
the size of the assembly.
Rev. S. A Martin asked that the pastoral
relations between himself and Christ church,
Lebanon, be dissoU'ed. The church by its
representative expressed Its assent te the
request, and the presbytery then granted the
same, and adopted a resolution expmssiug
i egret that Bre. Martin feels constrained te
glve up his work at Lebanon.
The report of the commlttee en education
was taken from the docket and discussion en
the same consumed the remainder et the
morning session.

Despite the fact that the P. R. R. pay car
arrived In Columbia yesterday afternoon, the
nttendance at the Vigilant fair was small.
Columbia merchants have been conspicuous
by their absence. During the evening the
Shawnee fire company, escorted by the Col
umbia band, visited the fair, and threugii
"William Blackseu, prosented te the Vigilant
company tbe largest and most magnificent
cake evor seen in Columbia. W. B. Given
received it for the .Vigle boys. Jehn Smith,
of Columbia, was Its maker, and an excellent
pi cee of workmanship it was. Later in the
evening a handseme cut-glass set was pre
sented te the fair by Putnam Circle.
Calice Apron and Necktie l'arty.
About 500 persons attended the calico
apron and necktie party last evening in the
rink. It was a decided success. Miss Flera
Stevenson received a handseme photograph
album for w oaring the smallest apron, and
Mrs. T.vsen Simpsen a similar nrize for the
largest James illnkle wero a nccktie half
the slze of a silver threo cent piece, and was
awarded a season ticket as the prize for the
smallest necktie. William Jacksen's ncck ncck
teo contained sevcral yards of calico, and be
ing the largest worn,he received aseasen ticket
us the prize. Last evening's entertainment
closed the rink, and it will remain be until
September.

Reb. Brown, of Tew Hill, was arrested by
Olllccr Gilbert, for having cemmitted un
assault upon a colored man named Richard Richard
ijen. Squire Yeung gave the case a heurlnir,

same, and upon Brown paying the costs it
was dismissed.

At7 o'clock this morning it began te snow
and there was a lively and continuous fall of
the feathery flakes of whiteness for mere
that three hours, but they melted almost as
fast as they fell. The florists and gardeners

The Lebanon rime states that Jehn Bon Ben
son, the absconding Lebanon lawyer, arrived
in Lebanon at v OSS Tuesday evening. A
number of Bensen's acquaintances Svhe bad
heard of his arrival called and shook hands
with him. The interviews In almost every
ca.se brought Bensen te tears, and his sob
bings at times wero qulte allectlug. Bonsen
conversod freely with his friends, and In al
luding te his capture at llerrlsburg, said
that the pollce of that city were .put upon
his track by a resident of Lebanon -whom he
had accidentally met at the depot about 2
o'clock yesterday morning. He was also
specially denunciatory of the Illegal and in
human treatment te which he was niibmltted
by the Lancaster authorities. 'He said that
from G o'clock a. in. te 2 p. m. lie wascontlned
In ene or the cells of the prison of that city
that falrlv overflowod with tilth, producing
an almost constant nausea from the ef
fects of .which he was still Hellering.
During this time, notwithstanding his fre
quent applications, he could noltber get loed
nor drink. In this statoment he was fully
conlirmed by Chief Leedem who avorred in
addition that the action of the Lancaster
authorities all through the case rwas simply
scandalous. , '

a half miles from Mouutville, was perhaps
atally injured en Tuesday ovenlug. Mr.
Cooper was employed In Musser's tobacco
warchouse at Mouutville, and after quitting
work In the evening, started for home by the
way of the railroad, as was his usual custom.

a train approaching, when he stepped ou te the
ether track, net observing another .train
which was coming in the opposite direction
The latter struck and ran ever him, cutting
his loll arm off and se severely injuring the
right ene, that it will probably have te be
amputated ; and also Hevercly bruising his
breast

Although the Barr-Wlley case has been
settled by the agreement of the Wlley estate

Jehn K. Fester, of Pittsburg, the transferee
of a J udgment held against Barr attached the
(12,000 iu the hands of Wlley's executers and
until this attachment is dissolved the money
cannot be paid out Barr claims that he
transferred his claim against the WJley
estate te his wife, iu consideration of moneys
advanced te him, by iter, from her separate
estate, several years before this attachment
was issued. Mrs. Barr died a few years age
and bequeathed her interest iu the Wiley
claim te her children. The matter w ill ceme

Rev. Dr. J. M. Tit7el, pastor-elect of the
First Reformed church, arrived iu this city
this morning, and his family will fellow him
inn few days. In anticipation of their com
ing the congregation has had the parsonage
thoroughly renovated, the parlors and dining
room painted and papered, and ether im
provements made. The larder and the coal
bin will net be found empty when tbe pas
tor's family arrive,as seme of the ladles of the
congregation v islted the parsonage last even
ing, and laid iu a store of necessary provi previ

Last evening a sufllcieut number of colored
men wero taken out from their winter hiding
places te make up the Goodwill band. They
paraded around town until a late hour sere
nading different iorsens, and a desperate
otlert was made by them te blew out the

of cymluds, and the muscular-looking young
fellow who conducted t he hammering en the
bass drum had lull swing. As far as has
been loarned no guns were lircd at the organi
zation during the evening.

A contract has been made by the Con
sumers' Gas company, of Reading, of which
Messrs. Baumgardncr, of this city, nre the
chiofewnoru, a lth Mr. Malency, manager of
the Pennsylvania Globe Gas Light company
and an oxperlonccd constructor, te build the
new gas works of Reading between new and
Soptember, by which time they are te be
ready te be put in operation for the delivery
of gas te consumers. The slte for the works
will be decided uKn within the next few
days, negotiations having horcteloro been
entered into for an eligible let. It Is proba
ble, however, that the new establishment
will be located In the vicinity of the proposed
shops of the Pennsylvania Schuylkill Valley
