Columbia, April 0. The new borough
council wns erganleed In council chamber
this morning at 10 o'clock. Old council was
called te order by President Pntten, and
alter roll call all members being present, ex
cepting Mr. Pfahler, the president adjourned
old council tine itie at 10:15. The retiring
members of council aret Messrs. Pat ten,
Pfahler and Shunitn, the new members are :
Messrs. Paine, Musser and Uersbey.
The new cetincllmen were then sworn in
by Chief Burgess Newton Jacksen, after
which Wm. Tille was chosen temporary
president Nominations for president were
then made; Ditcher was nominated by Musser
and Perrettet by J. Westerman. The vote re
sulted In BucherrecelvlnffO votes, and Per
rettet 3, the latter gentleman voting for
Bucher, and Bucher casting a vote for him
self. Tille then appointed Perrettet te escort
President Bucher te the chair, whom he
made his enstemery remarks of thanks.
The salaries were then fixed as fellows :
Market master same as last year 1300 per
annum.
Superintendent of opera beuse, same as
last year, 180 per annum.
Borough solicitor, same as last year, (100
per annum in lieu of all fees.
Borough regulator, same as last year, at the
rate of $5 per day, when In service, and In
Hen of all fees.
Tille moved the borough supervisor's sal
ary be reduced from fie per mouth te $40.

It will be seen by the repert that the Re
publican members or council voted solidly
for their candidates, and being in a majority
or course elected thorn. They made a clean
sweep. The Demecrats In several instances
net only voted for Republicans candidates
but nominated thorn as well. The defeats of
isruner anu Aiaxien are regretted by Repub
licans as well as Democrats.

Kaster was quietly but appropriately ob
served In Columbia yesterday. Special
services In the churches and Sunday schools
attracted large congregations, which were
net only Interested In the sermons, but
dellghtcd with the beautirul decorations.
Twenty-ene new members wero admitted

by confirmation, baptism and letter. Yes
terday's congregations were the largest ever
known In the history of the church.

family heirlooms, having been handed down
the line of descendants for years. They con

tain. They are much evor one hundred

flewercd breakfast plates are ever seventy
five years old. A large dinner
plate Is about one hundred years old, a large
blue flowered water pitcher, soventy-flve
years old. A large tea iwt, embellished with
filctures, represents garden scenery. This
s for age, the most valuable In the let It Is
computed as being about one hundred and
fifty years old. A plain, white tea pet, Is ever
fifty years; a large blno-edged. and one
extra laree creou-cdcetl roast nlste. each of
which Is ever one hundred years old.
They are highly treasured and the family
could net be Induced te part with
one piece of this valuable qttoensware.
K. K. Stokes, the eldest son of J, R. Stokes,
Is also In possession of some very interesting
war relics, among tbe let belng an old Revo
lutionary sabre and a pair or sabres which
had been In the Confedorato service during
the late war and a Southern dueling sword, a
number of bullets and shot These articles
he gathered during a trip evor the Seuth and
Southern fields of battle. He has many ether
curiosities, among them Indian relics, old
coins, old German and English books, etc.
