high school of Heading, addresses an open

A few days age the firm or Charles P. Kcl Kcl Kcl
logg&Ce., Chicago, dischargedayeuiigman
named H. F. Powell. An Investigation or tlie
books seemed te show that Powell had cm
bezzled Reme of the Ann's monev. The sug
gestien that nn investigation be made came
from city detectives, who had noticed that
Powell appeared te le leading a last lire. Du
ring the Investigation the llrm discovered
that Walter Mills, the assistant cashier, had
, been lrrcgulnr in his habits, and he was d is.
s charged en last Monday. His snlarv was
' ?2,000 per year.
Mills, n young man named Charles W.
James, also employed by the firm, and Pow
ell were thrce fast men. They dined regu
larly at a noted chop heuse which is tie
qucntcd by sporting men. As seen as Mills
had been discharged an extert1 was put te
work en Powell's and Mill's books.
The first discovery was a shortage of 5200,
then came $000 mere, and then it was discov
ered that the two men had been systemati
cally plundering the firm for several years.
Mills was an old nnd trusted empleye and
up te Wednesday last, when Powell was
arrested, no ene In the hou-e would hae
questioned his integrity. The shorfcige of

has disappeared.
