yet." The elerk replied politely, " Ne,
they have just eaten breakfast."
Flve minutes elapa'd and still the clerks
were busy. Anether ollek of the telephone
brought a elerk te bia feet te hear : "De
you think the jury will agree te-day ?"
This easily answered conundrum came
from Btrasburg, and the amiable elerk had
net left the wlre two minutes when a man
from the upper enduf North Queen street
startled the clerks by shouting : "Have
you any ldea hew the jury stands ?" The
next question cime from a well known
restaurant and was : "Hew long has that
jury been out new ?"
This string of inquiries were kept up all
forenoon, and just before our reporter left
a man called up the offleo ; one elerk
answered but the inquirer said : " Yeu
won't de ; I want Mr. ." When the
gentleman inquired after, who waa very
busy, went te the Instrument he was
refreshed by hearing, "Any newa from the
jury yet ?" The elerk turned around te a
tobaeco begging lawyer and said : "Blank,
blank these people. Da they think we
have nothing te de but answer that
thing. We reoelve nothing for this work
and we are thinking of applying te the
new auditors and commissioners for an
extra man te de It."
