eaahier of the First National bank of Mon
mouth, Ills., was leaving the court house,
H. R. Thompson, from Texas, who sns
tatned heavy losses by reason of the bank's
failure, stenrwd from an adjoining build
ing and fired five shots at Hubbard from a
38 calibre revolver. Oee shot took effect.
Thompson waa arrested and ledged In
jail.

Margaret Miller and Daniel Shea, New
Yerk neighbors, quarreled Tuesday after
noon ever a pet eat of Mrs. Miller's which
Shea considered a nuisance and killed that
morning. During the quarrel Shea
plunged a poeket-knlfe into Mrs. Miller's
neck, from the effects of whieh she died
in the evening. Shea denies having com
mitted the erime, saying that no one saw
him de it.
