When men profess te be pablle teaohers,
whose utterances nre valuable for their
hearers te heed, there Itene quality wbleh
they cnutiet oultlvate with tee roueh
assiduity mill thnt Is punctuality. Ne roan,
let Ms Renins bepf the meitlirllllant order,
can make tin impression when be shows an
utter Inek of conception of the value of the
tlme of lit ntitlloneo. LKe la at Its longest
very brlef, and for him who baa an nt nt
laliiuute obeet la vlew, minutes are often
very precious. Tbcrefore it Is thnt
when a man robs another, by ncgll
ceuec, of tlme that might be profitably
devoted te work, be takes Mint whleh la of
no benefit te himself, but whleh may be
pricclcM te theso from whom he ban
Ulelied it. And the extent of this erlmin
allty mny be measured by the number of
portions nffuoted thereby.
Thrse are tritiums, but tliey may serve
te point n moral. About four weeks
age the Yeung Men's Christian association
of Franklin nnd Mnrslmll college wrote te
Hey. T. De Witt Tallmsce, of Brooklyn,
for hi terms te deliver n lcoture In Fulton
opem lnme for the benefit of the ntsoela
tlen. A rrply was reoelvcd from Mr
TnllnmRe stating bis oempontatlon, and
asking if It was satisfactory. The asse

him nt the same tlme that the date of the
lecture was Thursday, the 80th Inst.
Within the past few dajs telcgrams were
sent him informing him of the final details
of the Irctnre.
Last evening nn audionee of perhaps 800
peepln assembled in the opera bonse pur
sunut te the advertisements that for sev

papers. They were an intelleetual orewd,
whoferboio as long as pesslblu from be
traying any undlgnlfle.1 signs of impa impa impa

the lcoture was te begin, wero ou te 8:30
o'elook, even Intcllcet beeams ezaspcrated
aud expressed Its annoy.ineo by sarcastle
plaudits in the ahape of fcet stamping and
hand elnpplug.
Then Mr. Jehu II. Khchner, of the seu.
ler clans of the oellego, earae upon the
stage and with ovident and natural nm
btrrnrBinent apologized te the nudlenoe
for Mr Talmige's fallure te put in nn ap
pearance. He related the faets aubatan
tially as given above, nnd craved the In.
dulgencennd sympathy of theso prcsent
for the scurvy trlelc played upon the asse

nounced thnt all theso having purchased
tiekets would have their money refunded.
The net scorn te be entirely without

been stricken with paralysis of the tongue
or murdered en reute, it would seem that
he might h.tve easily telegraphed his in
ability te lte preeent. lie would thou
have saved bis employ en painful embar

lest tlme whleh even his presenoe might
have poorly repild. Mr. Talmage will
need te draw rathur heavily en his stoek
of "Muscular UhrUtiauity" te aoeouut for
his conduct en this oecn'iou.

Yesterday Jeremiah Bhindle, the father

It appears that the boy was at work
