Colored llarglar.
Sevcral daring robberies bave been
oemmitted around Palmyra, N. J within
the last few days, and the community has
beoeme thoroughly alarmed. On Friday
night two ether robberies occurred. The
first house breken into was that of Savery
Tey. Ills daughter, a brave young woman
17 years of age, was awakened by a neise
of some kind, and by the light of a lamp
burning in the hall she saw a burly col
ored man ransacking the bureau drawers
in an adjoining room. The thief heard a
slight neise at that moment and crawled
under the bed.and after waiting thore a few
minutes crawled out again, whereupon the
ycuug woman bravely grappled with him,
at the eame time crying loudly
for help. The ruffian struggled for
a moment te endeavor te break
the girl's held, and falling te de
se dragged her Inte the hall and threw her
headlong down a long flight of stairs,
injuring her se that she boeamo unoon uneon unoen
soious. At this junoture Mr. Tey ap
peared en the seene, but the thinf escaped,
carrying away with him a geld watch and
ehain, a let of jewelry and a quantity of
olethlng. Sunday morning Miss Tey had
partially recovered from the efTecta of her
fall, but was suffering considerably from
nervous prostration. It is supposed that
the thief then went te the residence of
William F. Morgan and oarrled off a large
quantity of iron's olethlng and ether
things. This robbery was net discovered
until morning. The thief had discarded
the clothes he wero and lelt them in the
yard, and probably denned a suit of the
stolen olethes. A description of tbe thief
was sent te the central station, Philadel
phia, and a strong effort will be made te
capture him.

a man and woman were aeen Bt&ntliDg ou
tbe corner near the opera home, and en
examination this morning the traeks of
the burglars at the stere window proved
te be these of a man nod woman. Bus
plcleu pointed te a man and woman going
by the name of Sharp, who have been in
town several days pretending te take
orders for tbe enlargement of pleturc?.
They had been in eeveral stores examining
goods, and while the woman would ask te
be shown the articles the man would walk
about the Btore, apparently examining
the premises. This morning a search
warrant was gotten out and search was
made of tbe parties at tue DearuinK uouse
of William Murehy, where they had been
staying. They took it very coolly and
were perfectly willing te be examined.
Nothing wca found. Other burglaries
wet e committed in Unlontewn Saturday
night, tbe houses of I F. Thompson and
Mayer Detweller suffering. The latter
bad a geld ring and ether artlelas te the
extent of $40 taken. The similarity of the

tbe same parties perpetrated all the
efferees. William Iletlcr was also robbed

Dtred with the corresponding period in
1883, show a falling off of $500,000, This
decrease Is due chiefly te small rcoeipts
from the tax en spirits. The taxes en the
big whisky product of 1891 were paid last
vcar. and the Bmaller product of 1832,
avallable during the current year, yields
taxes, se that there will probably be a
falling off of $3 000.000 revenue from this
sourceboforo the close of the ourrent fiscal
