Mr. and Mrs. Heuitis have lived mere or less at the Fifth Avenue hotel for two yean paat. They had an elegant suite of rooms, wbieh were paid for regularly, whether the couple oeoupei them or nor. Sometimes they would be away for weeks together, bat the bill was always paid en their return. They registered an from East Marnhlleld, Mass., where Mr iieustis was building a handsome home. Lie kept a carriage aud horses, and from his talk it was understood, about thn Fifth Avenue that he was worth some 12,000,000, aud that be was a broker or speculator in Wall street. He left the hotel about four months age with his wife aud went te Massachusetts. Ills rooms were reserved as usual and his return was dally ezpeeted. Ue had been gene about five week a wheu news of his death was received. Then the rooms were let and a bill for (700 was sent into his estate. Nothing was thought but that the bill was geed, and at the Fifth Avenue yesterday the manager was oenuuent tnat an right and that everything would be settled up in full. Mrs. Lyneb, who is a woman east the prime of life, decked out with a rgeeus white wig, sat behind her stock of dia monds yesterday and refused te say a wetd about the affair. She referred every caller and there was a multitude te her lawyer, Mr. Abrem Kling, of Ne. 201 Broadway. Mr. Kling was very com cem com munieativo. Liu was sure that he had a " dead open and shut " ease against the fair Gaergiana, who is only 3, aud very eharmlng. Aoeordinz te Mr. Kiinir. Mrs. Iieustis had eiten bjrrewed diamonds of Mrs. Lynch for use at operas and ball. ' Why," said the enthusiastic Mr Kling, "she onee get a ntckUce worth 140,000. Return it 1 Yea. Why, young mau, yeu're net up lu these things. Hew many people reputed rleu borrow gems for show you've no idea I That's a fea ture of New "Yerk life that you should study." Then Mr. Kling calmed down, lle thought Mre. iieustis a most acoeni plished oeuildenoe woman. She lived in splendid style at the Fifth Avenue, and oiude the acquaintance of Mrs. Lyueh, They became great friends. Airs. Iieustis moved in fashionable oireles. and. although possessed of a goodly number of gems, wanted variety. Se Mrs. Lynch leaned diamonds te her whenever sbe asked the favor. Diamonds of fabulous value appeared about her person when ever she was seen in public. Onea she had a ring and charm worth (35,000, whieh she were for two days. About a year age she get from Mrs. Lyneb. dia moods worth (.20,000 te wear ut a ball. They were te be returned, as the ethers had been, but they were net. The day after she lent the jewels Mrs, Lyueh sailed for Europe, where she has been traveling ever since. She returned te New Yerk three weeks age. Then, so se cording te Mr. Kiiug, a deteotive was sent after Mrs. Iieustis. lie ascertained (bat the diamonds had been pawned in Bosten. This detective, says Mr. Kling, also aseertalued that the charming Mrs. Iieustis had swindled Bosten merchants out et (100,000, that the home at East Marthfleld was a myth, and that Mrs. Iieustis was a professional swindler and confidence woman. Mr. Kling admitted that Mrs. Lynch and Mrs. fleustia were besom friends when the Utter was in New Yerk, but claimed te have a clear case against the charming widow. On Oct. 3, an indictment was found in this eity against Mrs. Iieustis for grand lareeny in the ueoeud degree. The affida vit en which the indietment was found was made by Mrs. Lynehj It was te the effeet that when, en Sept. 20, 1833. Mrs. iieustis called en her at her place of busi ness, she had known her for some time. Mrs. iieustis asked her for the lean of a diameud pin valued at fl&OCO, whieh she wished te wear and whieh she premised te return when desired. Mrs. Lyneh gave her the piu, aud en Oct. 8, 1833, she gave her for the same purpose, two diamond rings worth (900 and 1,200, respectively. She also leaned her en Oct. 11, a diameud stud valued at (75 ; a pair of diamond ear rings worth (1,500, and a sapphire and diameud ling worth (250, She gave her en Oct. 12, a wateh worth (60, and en Nev. 3, a diameud cresoent pin valued, at (400, and a pair of double stone earrings valued at (1,200. On Nev. 5, Mrs. ileus tis abtained ttetn depenent a pair of dia mond Bleeve buttons worth (275, and a itentlemau's repeatiutr wateh. whieh she said she wished te show her husband and which was valued at (500. On Nev. 25, she get a nine stone diamond pin valued at (1,500, and en Dee. 12, a diamond ores eres ores eent valued at (200, a pair of single stone diamond earrings (175, a diamond crets worth (2,500, aud a siugle stone diameud pin and a ruby ring, amounting together te (3,000. The total amount is (10,800. These goods were obtained en the assur ance that they would be returned when asked for, but Mrs. Heustls failed te de se. The deponent swore that she was informed that Mrs. iieustis bad no means and bad obtained money from ether persons in the same manner. She had pledged the prep erly te aiuerent, persons la Uosten and re futed te return it. An affidavit from Qeorge M. Lyneh, employed by the United States piper company at Ne. 147 Duane street, was also submitted. Lyneb deposed that he was in the employ of MrB. Lynch when the diamonds mentioned were given te Mrs. iieustis, and he corroborated Mrs. Lyneh's statement. On September 20, Lyneh went te Bosten, where be learned Mrs. Heustls lived, having Add from the Fifth avenue hotel, whose proprietor she bad defrauded out of (500, as the depon depen depen ont was informed by Mr. MoPhersen, of Bosten, who was also eheatud by Mrs. Iieustis out or (7,000. Lynch had an in terview with her in Bosteu, when she Bald that her property had been seised by creditors, and she was forced te pledge tbe diamonds and ether jewelry. She would net say, however, where she had pledged them. Lyneb deelared that he was informed by Counselor Edward II. Pierce, of Ne. 81 Milk street, Bosten, that Mrs. Iieustis was au adventuress and had eheated ethers besides Mrs, Lyueh and Mr. Aloi'hersen. It is claimed by tbe friends of Mrs. Geerglana iieustis, who is under arrest in Bosteu for the alleged lareeny of (20,000 worth of diamond from Mrs. Lyt eh, that she is the victim of an attempt te extort money. They say that her lata husband J. Fred Iieusus, was a man of property, though it is admitted that he waa living beyond his means, and was tt tines prssMd for bmm, JtUU It la claimed. that the proceeds of the estate, which Is new in the hands of an ozeoutor, will be sufficient te pay his debts. The relations existing between the Lynohes, mother and sic, and Mr. Mrc. Henstis appear acoord aceord acoerd ing te letters and bills in ozistence, te have bfen intimate in both business and soelal afUtrfl. It Is olalmed that the diamonds and jewelry te the amount of O20,000,upen the alleged larceny of which the criminal indictment is based, were bought en credit by Mr. Iieustis and presented by him te Mrs. Iieustis. The regularity of the purehase Is apparently proved by a bill In S roper form, amounting te about 128,000, ut reduced by some thousands of dollars by payments en aoeount which are properly ereaitea.
