Tbe elopement or Maffdalene Drake, of
Ilarriteu, WMtcbcster oeanty, New Yerk,
with Jeeee Carrell, her father's oeachman,
jj tm the topie of conversation in that
Helghboiheod, Friday. Mr. Drake was
non-committal, except teiay that he knew
BethlcR about the runaway and should
take no means te find out any
thing about them. Mia Drake left
her father's fcenae en Monday, te
vfelt acquaintances in the etty. Bhe took
with her two large trunks, well filled.
Her father had no idea until Wodnesday
night that she had eloped, Carrell bears
an ezoellent reputation in Harrison. Tiie
people there say that he baa a geed
education, ia a steady fellow and will rnake
Miss Drake a geed husband. He is of a
saving disposition and has, it is said, $1,000
lu a savings bank. His stepfather, tee, an
old Irishman, who worked for Mr. Drake
as an undor7ardenor,is said te have saved
a oerapotenoy.
Friends of Carrell say that the oeuplo
were married in this city en Monday or
Tuesday. It is also said en pretty geed
authority that Miss Diake has a fortune
of seme $75,000 in her own right, which
was left her by her mether, nud that she
will get it vfhen her youngest sister comes
of age, whleh will be in a short time. Ske
has an excellent education, being a gradu
ate of Paoker Institute, Brooklyn. Mr.
Drake, who is called the richest man in
Harrison, seems mero sere than angry at
the affair and will take his daughter baek
again, if she comes of her own accord.
