appears, it is poidtlve prpef of constitu
tional taint, and howevor mnch may be
done te ameliorate, nothing 1 available te

trcn ever dbriws th6 pyniplem we call
yellows until it is oeuHtltullonally affoetrd,
net only In its own Ufa, but, nUa In its
seed, from whleh a HUoeension Is procured.
This Is just why we find the yellows en the
increase, bccauiothe taint la in the seed,
from generation te generation, se that
many orchards die befoie ever bearing a
crop, while etheiB may be te far assisted
that they will bear a crop or two at some

New, the peach, derived from the al
mond, is siisceptible of being lupievid by
culture up te a certain degrce of perfec
tion as long as the Rami) means that
brought perfection nut of impotfeetion is
continued and moderation in our designs
maintained ; but just as seen as we aim
abeve the DOHsibillticR or nature, or fall
belew Us requirements that nas tenaeu te
the perfection attained, a marked degroe
of disease becomes apparent.
Unt why de we net knew that any
deviation from nature's balance is diecaie?
A fat hog or horse, or person, Is net a
healthy hog, horse, or person, but a per
seu or animal forced out 'of nature's
medium toward home presumed perfection.
Fer seme purpose it may be called a per
fection, for this is a iptite indefinite term ;
but for the geed of the uatnre of the in
dividual it is just se far au imperfoetlon
that will, if net provented, run b.iek te its
uatural standard. I knew full well that
if 1 should say te the amateur fruit
grower that his line productions vrere un
natural, aud cehBtquuntly, lu the huht of
natural philosophy, symptoms of inherent
difieate, he would net takqqulte kindly te
the idea, but might tell me they were im
nrevements ou nature, whieh. for his pur
pose, they ate, but net for nature's
purpose. Disease Is any departure from
nature's primary Mar, aud must tin milu
taiued by the means used te originate It. If
the ehauged condition renders the tmbject
liable te ether dlseaHe, we 'must, set one
disease te euro another. But never im.
agine for a moment that art is an im im
prevemeut en nature, and net a diseased
condition of it. The hlbtery 111" the peach
tree amply proves all tbatl claim. The
Unit diseane (or departure from nature)
w.is a pretit te us in an improved fruit,
and while our deBirns were thus H.iUstiyil
aud the uie.ius of chauge kept up, our
position was a tonableuuo ; but push for a
still greater perfection, being a greater
degree of departure from nature, gives us
a U liferent Btage of the ene disease, aud
the laat stage we eall the "yellows,"
from which there is no rcturu te health,
aud dieeuse aud death are established.
New, what I have said of the peach is
equally true of the pear, and the " yel
lows " aud pear " blight" are but varied
symptemB of ene disease noting upon
different subjects ; which dieeae is simply
a departure Irem nature, the Unit symp
tom of which is a geed fruit te mau, und
the last symptom is " blight " of the
branches of the true and death iu tbe end.
Te one who cau traoe elieets te their
causes, all the degrees betwoen our
imagiuary perfeeliuu and the end nl' our
libertlcB with nature's facia may be
marked at every stage. We have new
millions of peaeb trees in a statu of dls
ease, bearing fruits of many degrees of
Dorfeetiou. as we leek upon the hubjeut ;
but all are mere or less diseased, acojrd acejrd
iug te the degree of departure from
nature's balance betweeu our finest fruits
and her original flat.
1 new he wide open te all oemmont that
may be brought te bear upon this view of
the inevitable truth et fruit ualture, and
though it may ill Buit the amateur oul eul
turist, it is that te which 'nature will
eventually bend tbe will of mau, if net by
reason, still by the force of faat. Art is
but the handmaid of uature.and the nearer
it accords with its mother energy iu prac
tice the greater the duration of the
liberties afforded us through its meaus

Ella Larrabee, the girl burglar, of
Brooklyn, pleaded guilty en tiaturday iu

Judge Moere had oempleted the regular
business of the court, Danlel Bhugru, the
young Connecticut farmer, who a month

and selected the girl burglar as the meat
desirable, approached tbe bench and re
quested Judge Moere te give him a hoar hear hoar

" I have come," the young farmer said,
" te intercede for Miss Larrabee, and
secure your aid in marrying her,"
Yeu can't kuew what you are about,"
replied Judge Moero. iwill net de aoj aej

the penitentiary already, and is sure te go
again. It may be different with Connecti

Bhugru turnrd away evidently niueh

the eeld water thrown en his matri

te Ilaymend street jail und paid his res res

was a very affecting one, and tbe Con Cen Con

of afTeotien, and assured Ella that he would
make her his wife after the had served
out her term, whleh he understood would
be two years. Ella 'premised te be true
te him, and that iu future she would give
up her thieving ways. Bhugru gave her a

He returned te Conneetiout last night
with a heavy heart. Un is Ull ynars old,
