tion drill last ovenlng, executing with
much dcsterlty a number of dlfUeult
maneeuvres. They wero under the com
mand of FlrstBorf.eantMlohnol F, Mowers,
who has had oensidorablo exporleneo In
military duties. Mr. Uowera entered the
regulararmy as a private In Ootebor,1878,
was stntloued at David's Island, N. Y.,
and iu a few months wns promoted te the
pest of drill sergeant of his oempany. This
Fatter position he filled until Deoembor,
1880, wheu he was tran&forred te the 20lh
roelment. delne duty en the frontier.
Frem that tlme until March 15, 1883, he
held the position of drill instructor, noting
sergeant major and aetlng provost ser
geant. Shortly nfterwards Air. llowers
