The l'Hraulp anil Unrret.
Although of late years the Increase in
the cultivation of the carrot aud parsnip
has been noticeable, yet we think that net
nearly as great bread li of land has been
occupied with these two crops as their
value demands. All farmers who have
raised crops of these vegetables kuew that
they require careful cultivation, nud in the
first week at least cousiderablo labor ;
but ue crepa yield mere abundantly or
nay better. The soil for thcse crops
slienld be rich, and well pulverized. Toe
seed should be sewn in drills and the drills
seme twetity eight inches apart te admit
of a small oult'vater between them. The
seed should be of last year's growth, and
should be coveted very lightly. It take.

writes te that paper as fellows : Having
had te care for and feed milch cows every
winter for thirty winters, and having
tried nearly all the different kinds of cow
lied, the following is the mcthi'd that I
iind the best aud cheapest, nil things con
sidered, for this part of the country : I
have a geed warm stable for my cows aud
tie tliein around the neck ; have stalls
between them, also a separate manger for
them te cat fiem, se they cannot get their
heads together. Cows will net de well if
one stands iu fear of another all the time.

the ears en them. I feed a muderate feed
of corn night aud morning, say about as
much as a half a bundle, with a feed of
husked feddct or hay at neon Some will

of unusual size. It is new giving up its
annual yield of sap for maple stig ir. This is
the ninety fourth sucocttive year in which
the trce has bten tapped. Samurl I'rssteu
tapped it, with numerous ether tiecs, in
Jlarch, 1700 Frem the sap obtained he
manufactured a quantity of stiiiar. He

Washington, who was then presideut.
This Merris did. The acknowledgment
or the rcceipt of the sugar, in Washing
ten's writing, is still preserved in the
