accomraedato the truek ; but au examin
ation shows that te romedol it would cost al
most as mueh as the purohase of the Empii e
building. The Washington cupola is en
tirely tee weak te sustain the Empire bell,
se that a new tower would have te be
built ; the prosent stabling would have te
b3 tern down and the building oxtendotl te
the rear, and when done, the steam ongine
and the truek would have te pass iu and
out of tbe same narrow entrance, causing
great Incenvenience. The removal of tbe
big bell, wires, nnd alarm apparatus, from
tbe Empire te the Washington building
would also involve heavy oxpeuse. The
committee had examined tbe premises and
considered the cost nud wero oenviuood
that it would be much better te loave the
truck whera it is in the Empire building,
whieh is well suited for the purpese, well
Ioeated, and permits the truck te avoid the
railroad, in ruuniug te and returning from
fires.
Mr. Evans reminded councils that the
ordinance roergauizlng the dopartment
provided umeug ether things that the
hook ami ladder truek should be housed
with ene of the ongines. He thought the
price propesod te be paid for the Emplre
building was tee high. If it oeuld be pur

would vote for it. Alter seme further
debate he moved that the oemmitteo be
authorized te purohaFe the prepetty at a
sum net exceediug $2,500. Tbe motion
was agreed te. Common council concurred.
A mossage from the mayor rolatlve te
