The repert of Parliament's abduction
greatly alarmed his friends, and they for

prisoner's friends wero endeavoring te

within two hours of the time appointed by
the Italians te out off Parliament's ears.
His friends sent out frantic appeals for aid
te the chief of police of Ilaltimere, and
the deputy marshal of that city and
twonty-llve men arrived a few moments

sheriff's poshe was in readiness, and,
headed by the police, who wero armed
with rovelvors and clubs, set off for the
Italian eamp en the double quick. The
attaeking party also iueluded twenty flve

Havre de Grace. The total lorce num
bered 100 men.
The Italians wero found coneealcdbohlnd
trees, nud strongly posted. They did net
appear te be at all overawed by the strong
ferce attacking them, but yelled leroelous

and wero seen anions the rioters, laying
them right and left with their clubs. The
Italians wero armed with picks, crowbars,
and a few pistols, aud made a stubborn
resistance, tlnally compelling the pelice te
use their pistols. Acting under orders,
they first tired In the air, and this se

weaken. In a few minutes they wt re in

The Italians evidently de net understand
the situation fully, and are arming them
selves in anticipation of anether attack.
They nre greatly enraged, and it is feared
will give mero tiouble before long. Par
liament says that when he oftered te pay
the laborers fifty centa en the dollar, they
immediately became very mueh enraged.

youngest daughter of ChriBtopher Fcss

te Jehn T. Wiggius four years age, It is
said she had the reputatien of belug fast

ness. He instituted divorce proceedings
last August and coased living with her.

the weapon from her. She then went out

On Friday afternoon, as Avery was sit

Secretary Swank, of the American Iren
and steel association, has collected from
the manufactures the statistics of the pig
Iren business of the country for 1883, The
total prodnet of the United States was
6,140,072 tens of 2,000 pounds oaeh, as
against 5,178.100 tens in 1882. The total
production of Pennsylvania in 1883 was
2,038,801 tens; in 1882 It was 2,440,250
tens. Statistics full of slgniQcance in
roferonco te the number of furnaces in
blast were also obtained. On January 1,
1884, thore wero G83 furnaces in the
United States, of whleh 271 were in Penn
sylvania. Of these 083 furnaces 807 wero
in blast at tnatdate, of wulcu Hi- wero in
Pennsylvania. On January 1, 1883, there
wero 417 furnaces in blast in the country,
of whleh 185 wero in Pennsylvania. On
Julyl, 1883, thore wero 834 furnaees in
the entire country In blast, of whleh 101
wero in Pennsylvania. Mr. Bwauk said
that the prospcets for the current year
were net se bright as might be desired,
and a geed many furnaces have already
geno out of blast slnce the first of the
year.
