.Jehn Smith, the negre murdorer of Jo Je
Hlah Harden, lived in a hut near ElkitiP, n

On the 10th of May last he wns in Klklns

Smith then went up stairs, seized Mre.
Harden and dragged her down stairs into
the weeds, where he outraged her. Her
son, n small boy, went te the rescue of hiH

threatened te sheet him. After he had
murdered the father and outraged th i
mether Smith went te lilt hut en the meuii
tain side, but the alarm was Hounded and
he wns pursued. Finding his putsucrs
clese upon him he escaped up the chimney
and ran ever the mountain. Four days
later he was seen in Winchester, Va.. and
