Tyng, of the Stateu Island nine, a Har vaul man, gives the following scientific explanation of pitching curved balls : The out curve, or the one from right te left, is the only curve that can be made, for the reason that a man cau't threw a ball swiftly when he holds it iu position te de anything else. Te get an out curve the ball must be held in the hand in such a way that it axis is perpendicular ; that is, with the back of the band toward the ground. When it is thrown out iu that position and made te revolve from right te left the rcsistauce of the air is strongest en the right aud least en the left. The course of the ball then naturally inclines that way ; the mere rapid the revolution, the greater the curve. Te direct the ball the ether way, the axis would have te he kept upright and the revolution reversed, which could be done by holding the palm of the hand down ward. Field Nole. Manager Malene, of the Quicksteps, thinks there will be a large number of new teams admitted te the inter state assecia tien. This will be el financial benefit te all the clubs. OU TO THE rEOPLE. Anether Leading Democratic Journal for Aqjearament. Belief onto Watchman, Dem. t mi r s tt , .-j n i iud ieuiuuniui) xiuusu uaa uucreu an ik can or dare offer. It has, in order te fulfil the purposes for which the extra session was called, geno further than it should and offered mere compromises and concessions, than fair ness te its own party admits of. In fact it has gene te the verge of treason te the Democracy in its efforts te obey the mandates of the constitution, and all without result. The Stalwart Senate insolently refuses te consider any offer defiantly rejects all concessions absolutely and positively re fuses te de anything. What then can the Democratic Heuse de? Te adjourn finally is te allow the con stitution te be ever ridden and the rights of the peoeple te be denied ; it is te gire up the battle and say these who defy tbe constitution and care nangbt for the public weal are stronger than the peeple. Te continue in session is but te continue the expense which the tax payers in the end mast pay, and which the very meu who refuse te de anything will pocket. Te us there seems but ene way out. Refar the whole question te the people by adjourning until the voters con be heard at the polls. Let the Heuse pass a resolution adjourn ing uutil November or December, and no pay during the recess, and if the Senate refuses te concur, let the governor pre rogue both bodies until tbe peeple cau be beard in this matter. Let this question be put fairly before the voters of the state in the coming cam paign, and we venture tbe assertien that there will net be enough of Stalwartism left, after tbe election, te make a basis for half a dezen districts. Keep tbe If ulldtngs Painted. tiermantewu Teletriaph . The manufacturers of paints keep almost every description prepared ready for use, and iu. suitable cans- te be transported, with such brushes as may be necded for domestic purposes. Some of the paints, which would answer very well for outside work, can be purchased at very moderate prices. Hcuee thore is no reason that there should ba found among farm dwellings atd outhouses se many of them going te decay for want of a little paint, which the owner or bis boys could readily apply without difficulty, thus net only adding te the general appoarauce of the buildings, but greatly tending te tbeir preservation. Iu comparison with this the cost of the paint and labor is a mere trills and net worth counting. It is the weed work en the buildings which suffers, presenting a. most unsightly appearance, aud begins early te decay. A geed coat of paint as often as may be needed would preserve it for at least twice the length of time that would be the case in the absence of paiut. This fact is worth soiieus consideration, as it will be found that, instead of causing an expenditure el" money that many must think is thrown away, te leek at tbe shabby appearance of their buildings, it will proveau absolute saving. II should ba remembered that money wisely spent iu cases like this is doubly saved. m The Kangaroo. Lamb like as is the face of the kaoareo, tender and soft as are his eyes, he is by no means se gentle as be leeks. Like the heatbau Chinee, his countccance be lies him, and tbere are few mero exciting and withal dangerous sports than kan garoo chasing. Te tbe hunter seeking for some new sensation, a visit te tbe wilds of Australia in search of kangaroos can be recommended. It requires a lleet horse te run an " old man " down, if he gets a fair chance te show tail, and strong, well trained dogs te tackle him when brought te bay. Inside his soft, dewy lips are strong formidable teeth, which can bite severely. His forepaws, weak as they seem, can lift a deg high in the air and crush him te death ; while when lying down his favorite fighting attitude be can kick with his powerful hind legs in a manner that rapidly clears a circle around him ; and wee betide the man or deg that comes within reach of these huge claws, which can make a flesh wound deep enough te maim the une and kill tbe ether. Of course we hear speak of the great kangaroo tbe boomer or old man of the colonists. As a matter of fact thore are some thirty different kinds of kangaroos inhabiting various parts of Australia, aud one species pecu liar te New Guinea. They vary iu size from the tiny hare kaugaroe of Seuth Australia, the most agile of its kind, which is but little larger thau a rabbit, te the seveial giant species, whether black, red, brown or gray, seme of which staed nearly six feet high.
