Huslc, Dancing-, FmuUbc, Fraternal Vlalti- He Flcnlc Yetrday Seraei tal Mernlnj TIM Hall Te-nJjht. Although the wet weather of Wednes day broke np the Maonncrcher picnic at Recky Springs, it did net in the least dampen the aider of the jelly men and women who are taking part in the dedica tion festival of Che Lancaster 31 aennercher. Driven from the weeds bv the rain thev assembled In Mtennercher hall and the afternoon and evening were spent in sing ing, dancing and feasting. Daring the afternoon all the bands that were engaged for the picnic were at the hall and dis coursed excellent music. Tayler's orches tra was also en hand and famished music for the dancers. Late in the afternoon the Jrenville and Menntville bands left for their respective homes, bat the City band of Lancaster and the Buckalew band of Yerk remained and furnished excellent music for the throng assembled in and about Mamnercher halL The festivities were kept up until about midnight. The large "hall up-stairs was deveted-excluiively te dancing. The sev eial rooms down stairs were occupied by Ringing, drinking and feasting parties. There was net the slightest disorder during the festivities, and cot an oath or profane word was uttered te shock the propriety of the guests, many of whom wci e ladies. Jehn Copland was the caterer, and Le was ably assisted by Jeseph Lebar as chiif waiter and a score of under waiters. The dining room was elegantly set and tbe bill of lare was varied, embracing all kinds of soups, entrees, meats, game, pastry and confections. It was intended te have tbe picnic at ltecky Springs te clay, but the weatber again interfered, rain falling from early dawn until neon, and tbe committce of arrangements were reluctantly compelled te postpeuo the picnic until Monday next. This morning the several bocietio3 met at Mtuancrcher hall, and with tbe Bucka lew band at tiie head of the col umn, marched te Licderkranz ball, te accept of tbe invitation te, lunch extended them by that society. Bountifully laden tables were spread in tbe second-story ball, and tbe bar in the third-story wai well supplied with beer. Tbe visitors were welcomed te the Lieder kranz in a brief bpce:h by Prof. F. W. Haas After spending a plea aut hour in foisting and drinking, Air. A Solid Town and Hospitable People. The correspondent of the Baltimere Sun, who is attending the Siengerfest in this city, Eends te his paper glowing ac counts of Lancaster and its people. In liis dispatch printed te-day he says : " All are full of praise and gratitude for the hearty welceme given them evory every evory vvlicie. The mere ene sees of Lancaster the mere pleasing is tbe impression left. It is a city of seme 28,500 inhabitants, largely Germans ; in politics it is just new Democratic, though thore is always a stubborn fight for the ascendancy. As in Baltimore, the Eighth ward is the Gibraltar of the old Democracy. It has a fire department of four htcara engines and two trucks, and also has the call system. The department displayed its ability early yes terday morning. A large tobacco ware house near Woodward Ilill cemetery caught fire, aud while it was entirely de stroyed the firemen tbewed their visitors, crowds el whom Hocked te the fire, that they knew their duty and performed it. The police force consists of eighteen utii formed men, who teem te be fully able t take care of the town. In tbe way of public buildings Laucasterbas a fair court house, and a very commonplace posteOico and city hall in ene building. A handsome structure is being put upon North Queen street by private parties, who will rent the lower story te the govcrumeut for a posi pesi posi effice. There is an opera bouse, several banks and a large number of churcher, among ene of the Moravian, and one each of tbe New aud Old Mcnnenites or Dunk ers. This region is Cfentially tha home of the last named faith, aud very many women can be seen en tbe streets clad i.i tbe severcly plain dress, cape and bannct of black or gray, according as they belong te the old orthodox or the new and mere liberal Dunkcrs. "The streets of the city are, as a rule, bread and straight; seme few of tbe most important are paved with Belgian blocks, ethers arenacadamized, aud tee many are yet in that slate of nature which reu ders them uuplcasantly dusty in dry weather and horribly muddy in wet. In deed, this morning's parade suffered net a little en that account. Te lay all possible dust, the authorities spiinkled the streets very generally. Their efforts were far surpassed by a light but steady rain, which converted the unpaved streets into beds of mud, and net a few of thore in line at the outset gave up in despair and disgust before the end was reached. The entire city will seen be lighted by electrici ty. The poles are already up, but owing te the many shade trees all along tbe pavements the success of the scheme is rather problematical. Commercially, the city ranks very high. It is ene of the largest tobacco markets in the country. Fer miles around town fields of growing tobacco are seen, a novel sight te many of the party. It has also many and well-known whisky distilleries. Indeed, it is said that Lancaster pays mera internal revenue than any ether city in the state, Philadelphia net excepted. The celebrated Lancaster watch faotery, a practical but very ugly building, started running again this morn ing, after a close of several days, the neo nee cessary capital te continue having been obtained. There are also several very large cotton mills here. And yet, despite a 1 this wealth and industry, Lancaster, stiange te say, has net a single morning paper. XX GAMP AT WILUAIUFOKT. Members of tbe Lancaster Company la Trouble, At Williamsport yesterday the review cf tbe third brigade of the national guard was a brilliant event and fifteen thousand spectators witnessed it. The regiments marched te tbe parade ground in splendid style, followed by a battery of artillery, and formed in line, when the governor and General Hartranft, at tbe bead of a brilliant staff, read rapidly along the , front and rear cf the line. Then, taking up a position in the centre of the field, the brigade, headed by tbe band, passed in review be fore them. The governor rode splendidly and at times it was difficult for his staff te keep within proper distance. Twe staff officers were thrown from their horses during tbe movement. As tbe riderless steeds went galloping off tbe field a mo mentary panic was caused among some of the spectators. The review was ever at six o'clock. After tbe review it seems that a disturb ance occurred among some of the members of the Lancaster company, which is thus related by a Times correspondent : "About eight o'clock as Sergeant Flick, of Cem pany K, Fourth regiment, and Private Levan, of Lancaster, were going into camp they get into an altercation at the sutler's tent, both' being under the influence of liquor, when Flick seized a piece of beard and struck Levan a violent ever the bead felling him te tbe earth and knocking him senseless and, as the private lay en the ground, he beat him savagely. Private Coglan then came te the assistance of his prostrate friend and made Flick desist. Flick and Coglan were taken te the guard house, when Flick assaulted Coglan sav agely, kicking him violently and injuring him badly. Levan ;s reported seriously injured." The man who cemmittc 1 the assault is a Geerge Flick who resides en Mulberry street and has been employed in the Liu caster watch faotery. Levan is a son of the strect commissioner and bis full name is Samuel B. Levan. The man referred te as Coglan is likely Jehn Cogley. BASEBALL. itetrigniuinn of Manager Spoece. Alfred Spcece, who has been manager of the Ironsides club dince it has been a paid nine, resigned that position last night. His resignation was accepted by the beard of directors, and no ene has yet been elected te fill bis position. The directors should elect a first class yeun-j manager, who un derstands bis duties thoroughly and allow him te secure geed players whenever needed. The nine certainly needs one mere geed player at Icrst, and the longer they delay getting him the greater the less will be te the club, Nine men aie net sufficient te nin a club, aud thore should always be one or twe"idle in case cf sickness or accident te any of the lcgular foice. William 15. Hobiusen, manager of tbe Waverly club, of Washington, and Wm. F. Hit, a player, of the uine, are in this city en a plea&ure tiip. The Alteena b.iseball club arrived beic this morning in charge of Manager Fisher and intended te play a garoe this afternoon with the Ironsides, Haiti prevented it, however, aud they left for Atlantic City at 2:20, where they play te morrow and Saturday. The nine included Yarnell, late of the Anthracites, and Ardncr, of the Active. '1 no club wnl play here en Fri day and Saturday of next week.
