Death et Mrs. Mary P. i.ewry. Mrs. Mary P. Lewry, widow of the late Wm. Lewry, died at her resideiict, Ne. 217 East Chestnut street, this city, yeater day afternoon, about half-past four o'clock, in the 82d year of her age. Her nifiiden name was Russell. She was born in this city en the 31st of October 1801, and lived here nearly all her long aud useful life. She married Wm. Lewry, a hatter, who was afterwards for many years, as sesser and tax collector, and who ditd iu January, 187G. They were the parents of nine ebildren,ef whom only four survive Mrs. Mary C. Quinn, widow of James W. Quinn, 'William, new residing in Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Jehn Frauklin residing in Philadelphia, and Mrs. Jenuie M. Franklin, widow, residing in this city. Perhaps no woman in Lancaster was mere widely known or mere universally respected than Mrs. Lewry. At least thirty-five years age. She engaged in the business of an undertakeress, and continued in it until a few years age, when advancing age compelled her te relinquish it. In the thirty years thus occupied, she prepared net less than 3,000, probably 4,000, dead bodies for burial, a greater number by far than was ever attended te by any ether person iu this city. She was peculiarly adapted te her profession. Gentle, considerate, sym pathizing, she ever had words of comfort and hope and encouragement for these bereft of their treasures ; and te hun dreds of families in this city she seemed like a geed augcl, who came te bring back words of consolation and hep9 te these whose loved ones bad de scended iu the dark valley and shadow of death. And new, after a painful illness of fifteen months she, tee, has gene te join the innumerable throng whose path way led te dusty death. But she was fully prepared and even anxious for the change. She had an unswerving faith in the efficiency of the Savier, whose cress she took up in early life and whose man dates she strove te obey. She was the eldest communicant member of the Piesbyteriau church, and .her. gentle, cheer I ul, spotless Jife furnishes an exam ple that ethers may well strive te emulate. Her funeral will take piano Friday after noon at 3 o'clock. The religious exerciscs will be conducted by Rev. J. Y. Mitchell, D. D her pastor.
