at the Uirard house aud held a business

held a meeting at the same place this
evening, when tbe bids for thu erection of

opened.
As has been slated belerc, this baseball
club is composed of geed material and new

sess a knowledge of their duties. The
club is doing all in its power te give thu
citizens an opportunity of seeing this pep
ular game revived in this city, and they

yesterday with Christie Truseette, tbe
wife of Thus. Truseette, of Silver Springs,
this ceuutv. and took passage ler the
W-st. Thcv bitched up Mr. Truscotte's
Irani, drove te Columbia, left the team
there, aud bought tickets for llarrisbuig.
As seen as the deserted husband was made
acquainted with the elopement he
took mcasutcs te bring the guilty
parties te justice. The police

notified, aud descriptions of tbe
fugitives were given. Whitney is de
scribed as a mau 20 years old, 5 feet 5
inches in height, fair complexion, light
hair and a dark (.dyed) moustache. He

Truseette is about 21 years old, 5 feet 1 or
2 inches in height, fair coraplcxieu, brown
hair aud eyes. She took with her$3Gef

sented te her by her husband. Telegrams
have been bent te Altoeua, Pittsburgh and

Samuel J. .Kemblc, aged 30 ycais, a
farmer of Little Britain township, was
found dead in a Held vcsteiday. He was
at work yesterday aud was suppesed te be
watering tobacco plants at the time for
supper, A member of the family went
out te leek for him and found him lying
dead in the Held. The deputy coremr
iinpannclcd a jury consisting of Themas
Furui6S, J. Guiles F.iirlamb, Win. Watres
Samuel Fairlauib, B. T. Bradley aud
Walter Bradley. The verdict was death

stolen from the stable of Mr. Simouteu,
near Biukley's bridge night befere last.

27 years, of Media, Delaware county, sen
tenced last November for burglary te five
years and eleven months, died last evening
at 5 o'clock of smallpox.

The vi'iierable Pirmiu Kaul, father of
Kev. A. F. Kaul, of St. Antheny's Catho
lic chinch, who died at 10 o'clock last
night at bis lesidence en East Orange
stieet, was bem in Sinushcim Baden.
Germany, en the 20th of May, 1808
and was 7 years and 10 days old. He
was mairied te Magdaliua Dick, who
survives him, en the 23th of No
vember, 18u0, they living happily
together for meie than 52 years,
and it will be remembered that their gel
ten anuiveK.ary was celebrated less than
th l ee years age, with lit festivities. He
came te this country in 1817, and lived
for (ive years near Adamstown. Then he
removed with his family te Heading,
wheie he icsidcd until the spring of 1870,
when he came te Lancaster, built himself
a luene alongside the Sacred Iloartacad Ileartacad
ein, ami theie spent his last years quietly,
cIem3 by his children Sister M. Stanis
laus, Hiiporieicbsof tbe convent, adjoining,
Father Kaul, and Miss Mary Kaul, who is
keeping house for her reverend brother.
Besides these three ether children survive
him.

The large and extensive lleuriug
mill-, at. Lewistewu, erected by the
late Jehn Sterritt, and lately
puichased by II. B. Graybill, of
West Fail, Lancaster county, are being
lemedled, refitted aud furnished with
machinery
of
the latest improvement
tbioiutheiih. The mill pieper is 1UU
fct long by 30 feet wide, four stories
high with" warehouse attached 100
feet square, three stories high, iutended
for storage only. Thore is also a graiu
waieheute 100 feet long by 40 feet wide,
four aud a half stories high, with a capac
itp for storing 80,000 bushels of graiu
situated along the side of the Lawistewn
Ad Sunbury railroad siding at
tached, connecting it with the railroad
hum which the giaiu will be spouted te
the mill, a distance of about sixteen feet.
The mill has been standing idle for six
years past aud was considerably out of
iepair, the old machinery being removed
aud icplaecd by new of tbe latest aud best
improvements.

A Wlmle Family Thrown Frem a Carriage.
Yesteiday Charles B. Kaullmau, e-q ,
accompanied by his wife, bis two children,
aud bister in law, Mrs.Ketter, took a drive
te Lititz in a two hoi se phaeton. On
their return home, iu descending a rather
steep hill south of New Haven, some part
or the harness broke, aud the horses be
came unmanageable, ruuuing for mero
than a mile and finally upsetting the
phaeton, breaking it badly and throwing
the entiie family heavily te the ground.
Mr. KauUniau was cut aud bruised rather
badly about tbe head, legs aud arms. Mrs.
Kauil'mau etcaped with very slight injury.
Mis. Better had oue arm a goeci ucai lac
erated aud was bruised badly. The chil
dren escaped injury. The horses ran only
a sheit distauce after upsetting the
vehicle, stoppiug-ef their own accord. Mr.
Itm-.liiM'. who was drivimz en the pike near
the plaoe or the accident, took Mr. Kauri
man and family te Keplingcr's tavern,
Neflsville, whence they were brought te
Lancaster in a market wagon.
Hugersleivii Aeiddents.
lu Hagerstown, Mil., Jesiah Kidcneur,
a carpenter, while at work en the fourth
story of the Updenraflbuilding was struck
aud instantly killed by lightuing. At the
time ten or twolve hands were at work en
the building, and all wero prostrated by
the check. The lightning struck a derrick
which Kidcneur and several ethers
were using, shattering it te atoms
aud throwing large pieces a distance
of fifty yards. At tbe time Ri
dcuuur was about four feet off.
Other woikmen were as near, but en the
opposite side, and escaped with only a
sovcre shock. The deceased was about
thirty years of age aud Icaves a wife and
four childreu. The building was net in
jured. Peter Hern, while hiving a swarm of
bees, was attacked by them aud badly
stung en the face, head aud hands, and
even"" iu tbe eyeballs. He is Buffering
sevciely, aud his atteudiug physician ro re
K.u ds his condition as critical.

Last night tlie person who sounded

chief engineer in endeavoring te pull the
bar te its place, struck the alarm 512.
Persons who sound alarms should pull the
lever gently or they will injure the appar

The new M. E. church at Quarry
ville, this county, Rev. F. M. Brady, pas
tor, is te be dedicated en Sunday, June

and A. L. Urban, of Philadelphia, have

Cruelly te AnluialB.
Complaint has been made against Jehn
aud Edw. Ilubley that they se cruelly
abused two pigs belonging te Mrs. Smith
en North Mulberry street, that both the
animals died. The accused will have a
hearing befere Alderman McConemy 'en
Friday next.

has convened tbe Legislature in special
session, beginning te-morrow at neon.

Tbe Cloning llenrs of tbe Session.
At the Republican caucus of senators
this morning Senater Mylin, of Lancaster,
teas unanimously cbesen as the candidate
for president pre tern, of the Senate. The
slate committee selected te determine who
shall fill the offices two years hence is as
fellows : McFarland and Adams, of Phila
delphia ; Watres of Lackawanna ; Longe Lenge
necker, of Bedford, and Stehman, of
Lancaster. The fact that the western
portion of the state has been ignored has
excited much indignation among western
senators and Stehman will probably with
draw. In the Senate.
This morning Coxe submitted a report
showing that the soldiers' orphans schools
have been well managed as te admissions.
Greer made a report showing that accord
ing te the statements of heads of the var
ious departments, very little reduction of
the clerical force would be justified.
The candidates for president pre tem.
were Mr. Myliu, of Lancaster, and Mr.
Uoxe, of Luzerne. Mr. Mylin was chosen
by a vote of 23 te 17, and he accepted the
honor iu a few remarks suited te the du
ties of the office. All the officers of the
Senate and empleyes of the Senate down
te the senatorial clerk were thanked for
their services.

The business of the Heuse was con lined
almost exclusively te presentation speeches.
Speaker Faunca received a sBlid silver
tea service, washed with geld, consisting
of eighty-six pieces. He was also given
a gavel. Chief Clerk Meek also received a
silver tea set. It is probable that a
resolution will be offered te morrow for
adjournment until coelor weather.
Ne Liquor l.aet Might.
Beth houses of the Legislature contin
ued iu session last night with frequent re
cesses uutil 4 o'clock a. m. The night
session was net marked by any unusual
excitement or bad temper. Contrary te
the usual custom no liquors or refresh
ments of any kind were te be obtained in
auy part of the capital.

selected Senater Sherman for president of

Cleveland, for secretary. The committee

linuer taxation, the administrations of
Arthur and Fester, will contain a strong
tariff plank, will declare in favor of abel
ishing the contract convict labor system
and favor restoration of the wool tariff.

lau, who was recently pardoned by Gov.
Butler, "in a dyinc condition," was ar

way assaults of late. He was arraigned
ou five counts and held in $1,500 bail en
each count.
Suspension of a SiecK Breker.
Philadelphia, June G. Edward P.
Wetzlar, stock broker at 14G Seuth Third
street, suspended this morning, unable
te meet his contracts, no was short of
Pennsylvania, Reading, Lehigh navigation
and New Jersey Central stocks, aud about
8,000 shares were bought for his account
under the rule. His obligations te mem
bers of the beard will net, it is thought,
exceed $20,000.
Trampled Bin Wife te Oeatn.
Chester, Pa., June 6. William Col Cel
lins, about 50 years of age, who lives in a
fisherman's hut along Crura creek, two
miles from here, weut home while under
the influence et liquor last night, and
getting into a difficulty with his wife,
trampled her te death. Cellins is under
arrest.
Fatal Renewal of an Old Quarrel.
St. Leuis, Me., June G. Ellis Nickells
and Themas Cannen, living a few
miles from Macen, Missouri. re
newed an old quarrel en Monday
evening and a tight ensued, in which Can Can
eon was shot and killed and Nickells very
seriously, perhaps, fatally beaten with a
fence rail.
Outlaws Captured.
Waverly, Iowa, June 6. The Barber
boys were captured last evening in a
house six miles south of Tripoli, after a
desperate fight during which the outlaws
wounded four men, two of them mortally.
A murder for Life Insurance Meney.
Sergeant Peter Harris Boisseau,
of Danville, arrived at Petersburg en
Tuesday and summoned twenty-four
jurors te try the case ei the Common
wealth vs. W. T. Dodsen, whose trial
will occur in that city for the murder of a
negre named James Read. It was impos
sible te get a jury at Danville and it was
necessary te send te Petersburg for the
purpose. The case will be called for trial
te-morrow. Sergeant Boisseau and the
jurors left Petersburg law evening.
Dodsen recently insured his life for $5,000
for tbe benefit of his wife and children
and that they might get this sum he
murdered the negre, placed the body in a
house and set fire te the house that the
body might be burned and identified as
his (Dodsen's), bat the plan failed.
