MAY 30, 1888 DECORATION DAT. What is Ibis solemn sound ire bear ? It breaks upon a nation's ear Wire ocean's sob upon ihe shore. The wail ei storms whose wrath is e i Frem every letty mountain grand It swells and rolls through all our lami. A country mourning o'er its slain, Who gave their lives and net in vain Since la Its heart their mem'ry blooms Fresh as these flowers upon tbcir teuibs ; Their tell is o'er, their labors cease. In war they died but died ler peace. They bravely fought and nobly lull. And fame tbcir glorious deeds shall tell. Where" she decrees a crown ei bay Ne power en earth her band can stay, And en these graves a wreath is laid Ne storm can change, no time can lady. Where she has placed this deathless ou Let woman cast her roses down. And Leve and Fame together stand, A guard of honor hand in hand. Around these graves where heroes Jie Who fought ler right, nor feared te die. Mary Jiayard tljrlc. Flowers and Shrubbery. German town Telegraph. We take occasion once in a while te give a list of vines, flowers and shrubbery, as some guide te these of our leaders who may net be familiar with the names of the most desirable varieties, and who may wish te decorate their yards, gardens or lawns suitably. And we take occasion again te urge upon all who have the least possible taste for the beautiful in nature, and have net less than a pquare perch of ground, net te allow even the present sea son te pus without planting a new vine, flower or shrub. The ladies of a family may net have always the facilities te get the plants ; but if their fathers, husbands or brothers are considerate enough te pre vide a few choice specimens for them, as they can always be obtained in pets at our many excellent nurseries, there need be no fear that they will net receive due attention. The love of flowers is part et a woman's nature, and te deprive her of them is te deuy her one of her principal enjoyments. One of the things which we have no ticed about many places, is the neglect te multiply the different plants by cuttings. Every vine, shrub and ilewer can be prop agated from either the weed or the root. Seme of the plants are propagated mere easily aud almost entirely after the sec ond crewth has commenced, say in August. Propagation from the root usu ally takes place in the spring ; if started under glass, early in February is probably the best time. If we have a siugle specimen et a line rose, hew muc'u will it add te the beauty of a yard or garden te increase it te a half a dozen ? Se with any ether desirable flower. The deutzias, spireas, wiegelias, &c, and all the climbing vines, are readily propagated from cuttings. Se are box edgings, arbervitaes, &c. All it needs i.s a little attention at tbe proper time. Until the cuttings take root they should be kept moist, set out in a rather shady place, or at least protected from the sun during the hottest part of the day. MKOPS OF WAT UK. Mr. Jesewi G. Bickneix, Ne. G12 Main SUeet, Cambrldgepert, Mass., writes, April 27, 18S3: " 1 have been terribly alllieted ler a number of years with gravel and kidney disease. Mass., April 28,1683. He says: "1 have been troubled ler years with kidney and liver complalnt.tellon -ed by gravel, with sovcre pains in my back and groins. I had great trouble in passing water, it being scanty, and accompanied by terrible burning, the vessel being coated with brick-dust deposit. I was recommended te use Hunt's Remedy by a trend who had been completely cured of a similar trouble. I pur chased a bettle et the druggists, and com menced te improve at once. 1 have used bat two bottles, ana it has done wonders for mo no mere kidney trouble, no mere pain.
