The donations te museum were found
te be a specimen of the pupa of a species
of Palingenia, commonly called "May
FJy " sent by mail from Walhalla, S. C,
by Dr. Wm. B. Fahnestock. Specimen of
"Animated Oats" (Avena Sterilis) se
called from the fact that when laid en a
smooth surface they move around in a
lively manner.
Dr. 8. S. Bathveu made a few remarks
en some cocoons of the " Saddleback
Meth," Empretia StimuUd). Prof. J. S.
Stahr read a very interesting paper
en "Vegetable Monstrosities," illus
trated by a curious growth of
the Indian turnip (Ariscema Triphyllums.)
This was a specimen in which six perfect
and distinct stems were found te be united
in one, and the number of spedices were
a geed deal mere. The specimen was an
interesting one and will be prepared by
Mrs. Zell for the herbarium of the society.
Miss Lefevre exhibited beautiful speci
mens of the "Tamarisk" (Tamarix
Gallica) and American Larch (Lanx
Americana.) Dr. Rathven said that he
had paid a bill of $5 te the Academy of
Natural Sciences of Philadelphia for their
annual publication, and asked that the
payment be approved by the society,
which was done. Cemmittee en prepara
tion of a new cede of by-laws was en me
tien continued te next meeting. After a
half hour or mere indulged in scientific
gossip of various character, the .society
adjourned te meet en Saturday, June 30,
1883, at 2 p. m. in the museum.
