stockholders meeting of the Keely Steve
company, last night. The new baud of
directors are : Samuel Filbert, J. A. Mey-
ere, J.H. Herr, W. B. Given, B. C. Grey-
bill, Gee. W. Haldeman, Hiram Wilsen,
B. S. Detweiier and Wm. Pattee.
Mr. Detweiier was a!e elected treasurer.
At the first meeting or tbe new beard a

and a manager' of the works will be
elected

direoter.will also doubtless be contested
at that meeting, en tbe grounds that be

Wm. H. Tayler, a P. R. R. brakemae,

bridge east of Bryn Mawr yesterday en his
leturn trip from Philadelphia. He was
knocked senseless and fell en the top of

a member of bis crew, Ne. 24, and taken

Harry Welsh, who works one of the

yesterday, was a big afiair, despite the
unpleasant weather. The daneing pavilion
was crowded with dancers at night. Mr.
Audrew Hardnele presided in the most

stand. Everything passed off in a quiet
and pleasant manner.

Miss Nellie O'Brien, a prepossessing and
well educated young woman about twenty
years of age and living in Reading, took
poison en Saturday with -suicidal intent.,
but was saved by the use of emetics.
William-Aureus, an empleye of the
Bethlehem ireu works, went iute one of
the Hues of -the mill te clean it out. It
was forgotten that ha was in there, and
the heat being turned en he was burned
te death.
At yesterday's, meeting of the stock
holders of the Susquehanna & Tidewater
canal the preposition of the Reading rail
read company, te purchase all the stock
held by individuals in the canal at the rate
of one Bhare of Reading railroad stock for
two shares of canal stock, was taken up
and discussed and finally agreed' te, and a
committee appointed te attend te the ex
change of stock.

Attempted Hnletde.
This morning Amanda Tayler, a colored
woman, was .arrested.- by Chief Deiehler
for being drank and (disorderly andwas
placed in the same station house .eeU.with
Emma Archey, who wasin for the' same
offense. Mrs. Tayler was net in long until
she attempted te commit suicide by hang
ing herself with a rope, whieh she made of
her skirt. Although the" ArcheyweinaH
was intoxicated she . seen raised .an
alarm, and Officer Burns, who was en
duty, rescued the woman. Shortly after
wards she again attemptei-tet take her
life in the same manner but Officer Smith
apprehended her and prevented' it.

This evening at six o'clock the fire de
partment .will make a parade, se that the
citizens can see in what condition tbe
stock, apparatus &c, are kept. The route
is as fellows :

The Knights of Pythias' fair moves along
auspiciously. Among the articles wen by
chance last night were the following :

Three hundred visitors were well satisfied
with tbe fair.
Contracts Awarded.
Last evening the street committee
opened a number of bids at Alderman
Barr's office. Contracts were awarded as
fellows : Te furnish bricks for the year,
Wm. Lerenz ; paving stone, Geerge Tem
linsen ; te lay gutters, T. Bueh ; te lay
crossings, Jehn and J. Kiphorn.
Tbe Eastern Market.
A number of workmen this morning
commenced tearing down the buildings en
the site en which the eastern market is te
be erected en East King street.
Flaxsand Banners for Decorations.
The Knights Templar parade in this city
en May 30 will be a fine pageant. Many
of our leading citizens propose te decorate
their residences 'for tbe occasion and. the
Intelligencer job office has en hand a
large assortment of flags and banners
with emblems of the Templar order and
especially adapted te this purpose. Tbat
master of his craft, Harry E. Carsen, has
also en hand a large variety of comman cemman
dery cards and Templar devices, including
the Lancaster oemmandery's own special
card.

discussion, does net repeal the provincial
act ; te establish a mere certain process

with railroad companies for the jeipt use

Tbe general appropriation bill took up
the morning session. An important
amendment, offered by Mr. Trout, of Erie,
was added, increasing the appropriation te
public schools from $1,000,000 te $1,500,
000. There was considerable discussion
ou the amendment whieh took a polit
ical turn, the Republicans charging tbe
Democrats with lavish expendituies, and
tbe Democrats contending that they had
practiced economy in the matter of appro
priations. Chairman Hassen stated that
appropriation bills calling for ever $1,600
000 had been negatived. The amendment
was adopted by a vote of 111 te 60. The
bill was still under consideration when the
Heuse adjourned.

Three Hard Characters Put Out of tbe Bead
Chicago, vMay 15. Special dispatches
report a fight which occurred in Indian
territory last Saturday, twenty-five miles
east of Cadde. Three hard characters
named Carsen are alleged te' have mur
dered, near Delaware Bend, a short time
age, two white men named Blankinsen
and Hiddleson and an old negre "named
Willey. Last Saturday Marshal Menshens,
of Fert Smith, Ark., and Constable Cut
ter, of Graysen county, Texas, at
tempted te arrest the Canens, but they
Bhewed fight and exchanged a dozen shots
with the officers. Marshall Menshens was
slightly wounded. All the Carsons were
killed except their father who was releas
ed. The dead were left en the field un

Themas Trainer, Henry White, Johnny
