The morning's session of the Great f'eiincil of lied Men yesterday, was do de voted te the work of organizing. The afternoon session opened at 2 o'clock and closed at 5:30 p. m. The report of the great chief of records developed some interesting facts. Nearly 16,000 members constitute the different ledges of the state. A quarter of a million dollars is invested for relief of members ; the income from tribes as per capita tax is $0,000, and the receipts from the various tribes as revenue is $100,000. The eldest tribe is Tecumsah, Ne. 1, of Norristown, and the youngest Crittedessa, Ne. 244, of Dublin, Bucks county. The report was highly interesting throughout, and showed the extreme care taken by the great chief of lecerds in its preparation. A carefully prepared aud very exhaus tive report was'alse presented by the great sachem. la it were discussed points of law iclative te the order, memorial refer ences were made, and the general business of the order in the state was brought be fore the notice of the council. A ReuiarkHble family. Mrs. Cathariue Keen, of Eden town, ship, who was buried from the residence of her son-in-law, Samuel Myers, yoater yeater day, was aged S3 years, 1 month aud 2 days. She was the widow of David Keen, the first; decM-scd of the large family of Keen brothers, well-known citizens of Eden, who died in the following order and of the ages hera given : David, 72 years, 6 mouths aud 23 days ; Jeshua, 80 years, 10 months and 20 days ; Elijah, 75 years, 9 mouths and 1:5 day.-, ; llenjuiiin, 7! years, 9 months and 23 days ; Christian, C8 yearn, 4 months aud 27 days ; Henry, 75 years, 3 mouths and 15 days ; Samuel, GO ieats, 7 mouths and 3 days. The geld fever has almost entirely been forgotten in Myerstown, there net being any geld. The Boyd creamery, near Atglen, which was destroyed by fire two months age, is nearly rebuilt. The spring exhibition of the Chester County Agricultural society takes place Friday and Saturday, May 25th aud 20th . There will be a bicycle, mule, three run ning and two trotting races. The receiver of the Lycoming insurance company has filed ever two hundred liens in Reading, against citizens of Berks county for the non-payment of assess meats. Seme amount te $500. Themas Hoopes and Jehn Gray, of New Texas, Lancaster county, have contracted with the supervisors of Fulton township, te erect a bridge of 54 feet span near Ar cadia, en the read te Rowlandsville, Md. Wm.L. Quigley, about 15 years old, while working around some machinery in Meloheir's mill, near Boyertown, was caught by one of the shafts and had both legs and one arm broken and was badly hurt internally. His injuries will prove fatal. In Yerk, Monday, while the wagdn con taiuiug the "sacred cow" belonging te O'Brien's circus, was being driven from the depot, the horse attached te it ran off, knocked the wagon against a pest, ttn.set- tiug the vehicle and spilliug out the cow, thus allaying the startling rumor that the whole mouagcrie had escaped antl was about te depopulate the town. An eighteen months old child of Conic liusKellher, of West Fallewfield town ship, Chester county, get a grain of corn fast in its threat en the 28th ult. All efforts of a neighboring physician te re move it being in vain, the parents took the child te Philadelphia, where Dr. Hayes Agnew, the eminent surgeon, successfully removed the obstruction iu two pieces by cutting open the child's threat. An altercation arose between Matthew Cavanaugh aud Michael Crew, employed by Jehn Grant en the Phejnixville branch of the Pennsylvania railroad, near Frazer. Cavanaugh struck Crew with his shovel, inflicting a severe weuud en the arm above the elbow. Crew then picked up a large stoue and hurled it at the head of Gav anaugh with murdoretis violence, felling him te the ground. He lies in critical condition and his assailant is iu jail. The Bolteu house, Ilarrisburg, which has been the recognized Democratic head quarters in that city for a number of years was offered for sale yesterday by M. Themas & Sens, Philadelphia, but was withdrawn, as no bid reached the mini mum limit of price put upon it by the owuers, $45,000. Theio were several par ties from Ilarrisburg and ether paitsef the state iu attendance at the sale, but the hihesi bid received front any of thorn was about $40,000 Latterly, the Heiks eminty geese-egg eater, yesterday finished half of his task of eating five eggs per day for twenty days. The lirst Thursday iu May was the time appointed for the meeting, but for the purpose of surprising Dr. J. A. Martin, a member of the association, whose GOth birthday occurred yesterday, the meetiug was postponed until that day. The snrpiise was complete, as none but the members of the society aud Dr. Mar tin's family were aware of the arrange ments made for the meeting at Dr. Martin's otlice. He read a congratulatory paper, prepared by Dr. .1. MeCalla, of Millersville, who was unable te attend. Dr. Smith, a pupil of Dr. Martin, followed iu some compliment ary remarks, te which Dr. Martin re spended at considerable length, relating many interesting experiences in his pro fessional life. Au adjournment then took place, and the association was as much surprised as Dr. Martin had been, when they wete marched te a saloon near by whure au elegant entertainment, prepared te the order of Dr. Martin's family, awaitfd them, and which was discussed with the kceuest relish. The committee appointed at a former meeting te draft resolutions relative te the decease or Drs. M. II. Webb and J. G. Moero, late members of the association, reported a series complimentary te the memory of the deceased, which were unanimously adopted. After transacting poiue ether routiue business, aud fixing Lancaster as the place and the first Thursday iu August as the time of next meeting, the association adjourned and was ontertained by Dr. Martin aud shown through the premises, and were much interested iu the fine col lection of Japanese and ether curiosities gathered by the doctor's son, a paymaster in the U. S navy, and stored iu the family museum. An entertainment followed at the saloon where a first-class supper was sorved, at the close of which the guests departed, the Lancaster members arriving in Lan caster shortly after 7 o'clock last eveniup. Sentence Keduced. Jehn Utzingcr, who was committed for 45 days by the mayor yesterday morning, was taken befere Jndge Patterson en a writ of habeas corpus this afternoon aud his discharge was asked for en a writ. The judge refused te discharge him, but the sentence was teduced te 30 days as it appeared, although the young man had been arrested be fore, he never was com mitted en this charge. Under the law he cenld net be committed for mere than 30 days the first time. Fat Cattle. About two hundred head of flue fat cat cat tle fed by farmers of northern Cecil county, Md., and southern Lancaster county, have been purchased and shipped te the Philadelphia market withiu the past Gve or six weeks by Richard Merrick and Jehn Woodruff, dealers, of Chester county. The newspapers of northwestern Penn sylvania aud southern New Yerk have abounded recently with accounts of the misuVdugts of ene Jehn T. Cewell, a dash ing young man of about 2S, who is the same Jack" Cewell, wite was a well known and popular young fellow in social circles of this city come eight or ten years age when his family sojourned here for a few years. It seems that he icccutly married a fine looking Kentucky girl, with all the attrac tiveness of a Blue Grass bolle. She was Miss Edith Spangler, of Lexington, aud comes from ene of the eldest aud most ar istocratic families of that slate. They took up their rrsidence in Scrauten, Pa., where he was at tirst general agent of a manufacturing company of Erie They lived aud dressed iu geed style aud were socially very popular. They always seemed much devoted te each ether, and wero as happy as birds. Finally it became known that he was liv ing tee fant, aud au examination showed he had hugely overdrawn his accounts. His father settled the matter and the son was net arrested, ne was retained in a subordinate capacity by the company, but he did net reform and his misdoings even cxlcttdetl te umhczzlcment aud neglect of and unfaithfulness te his wife. On April 24th he de serted her and " skipped " the town te evade the consequence:; of iiis irregular ties. He had, however, a considerable amount of money just hew much cannot be ascer tained for a few days which he had col lected for the company. Mrs. Eliza Ebermau, relict of the late Peter G. Eberman, died of heart disease, at her residence, Ne. 37 North Prince street, about 8 o'clock this morning, in the 82d year of her age. Mrs. Ebermau was a Tnssler by birth : was born and ' lived all her life iu this city ; was exem plary in all the walks; of life ; a pious Christian connected with the Moravian church ; a faithful wife aud mother, and loved by all who knew her. She was the mother of nine children, only three of whom survive her two daughters aud a son all of whom are well known in this city. Her funeral will lake place en Fri day afternoon at e o'clock ; interment at Woodward hill cemetery. Stricken Willi Apoplexy. Mrs. Catharine Trewitz, aed 78, wife of the late Jehn Trewit., watt stricken with apoplexy at 5 o'clock en Sunday morning, aud died about seven o'clock in the evening, surrounded by her children, grandchildren aud great " grandchildren. The funeral took place this afternoon from her late residence, Ne. 144 North Mulberry street ; interment in Shreiuer's cemetery. A Lucky Knuaway. Last evening the horse of W. B. Va., Murder Arrested Detected by Contradictory Statement A Neero Hanged. Danville, Va., May 9. A colored man named " Pink " Haley has been in dicted as an accomplice te Dobsen iu the murder of James Head. Haley vis ited Read's body several times en the day after the murder and his behavior excited suipiciea. It appeared afterwards that he was seen with Read about 11:30 o'clock en the night of the murder, and had made contradictory statements about the transactions with Read. The colored man who suggested the arrest of Haley thought tbat " he was under a fascination the day after the mur der." There are ten witnesses in this case. Aliased a Negro and Snot a Mare. Louisville, Ky., May 9. During a quarrel between two negrees at the stables of the Fair association, yesterday, ene of them fired a pistol at the ether, but the ball missed its intended victim and struck and killed a fine young mare valued at $4,000. The mare was the property of Edward Wilder, of this city, and hsd shown geed speed. A colored Man Danced. St. Jehn, N. B., May 9.-Wm.
