x LANCASTER DAILY mTELLlGENCER. MONDAY. MAY 7. IS63. Lancaster fntelligenttt. MONDAY EVEWlNO. MAT 7. 1833' Tne Last DT ' Dynasty. An article under the above heading Lav : .n.ri in & late number of "Temple Bar containing ure&sly erroneetm state -mentB -concerning the circaiasUnces at tending the departure from Paris for Enaland of the EmpreBB Eugenie in 1870, elicited a reply from Dr. Themas W. Evans, of PariB, which waa published in the column of the Londen Daily 2eu graph. The writer of the original article. netBatifiaed with that denial of the truth of his statements, replied through the medium of the same paper, adding net only mere errors of fact, but also putting certain questions, waicu mji. . -swers as fellows : The many versions concerning the de parture of the Empress Eugenie from Paris in 1870, 1 had up te the present time refrained from confirming or refuting, if only from a sense of the delicate nature of the subject and a natural desire te avoid any discussion which might recall painful events te the mind of the august lady whose sufferings have been se great, l ne positive, but se totally unfounded, narra tive by the writer in " Temple Bar Maga zine" drew from me, however, a concc cencc concc t!en which It certainly supposed would settle the matter. As the sole agent in the journey of tne empress from Paris te Deauville, where we embarked en the yacht of Sir Jehn Montague Burgoyne sailing te Ryde, thence by trainte Brighten and te Hast ings, where I united mother and son, I naturally concluded that any statement made by me en thefaubjeisfc would require no further demonstration ; -but as the "Writer of the Article" has presumed te question the facts as set aright by me, and refers me te the celums of the Times and the pages of ' Vapereau," I finally assert that it was under ray sole cnarge tbe Empress was conveyed from Paris te Chislehurst, via Deauvilie, Ryde, Brighten and Hastings. As her Majesty may at any moment be appealed te en the subject, it is surely needless for me te say mere. The " Wri ter of the Article," in noticing that lre ferred te his or her recapitulations of per sonages as .having conferred with the Em press at the time of her departure from Paris, carefully refrains from naming M. (Jenti and the Duke de fersigny, the par sons te whom I referred as being deceased before the events of September 1870, aud erroneously made te figure therein by the writer in question, who adds te ether mis takes by confounding Sir Jehn Fex Bur Bur Bur goyne, Bart , with Sir J. Montague Bur Bur geyne. I regret that repeated misrepre sentations of incidents in which I was se intimately concerned should have forced me from the reserve which I have persist ently maintained and should have pre ferred. Desperate Convicts. A desperate attempt was made by five convicts in the St. Paul penitentiary, Men treal, te escape. After getting out of their cells by means of skeleton keys, they gagged the keeper and bound his hands behind his back. The leader of the gang, p. desperate criminal named Leblanc. then tODk n revolver belonging- te a guard. In a few minutes two guards came along upon their rounds, and were set upon by the convicts. Leblanc, presenting his re volver at tbe head et one el the keepers, called upon him te surrender. The ether guard had an iron padlock in his baud, weighing seven pounds, and with it he struck Leblanc en the head laying him prostrate and fracturing bis skull-se that his life is despaired of. This ended mat ters, as the ether convicts surrendered aud were locked up. Leblanc escaped about a year age, but was recaptured. Murder and Soleiile in Masnaclni!eur. Frank Mann, of Oxford. Mass., shot Mrs. Mary E. Moere, of Millbuiy, through the head at James Dean's bearding house, near Millbury. He then shot luinsult thiengh the temple, killing himself in Btautly. Mrs. Moere lived only ten or 111 tee u minutes. Sue had been separated from her husbaud aud was expecting a divorce. Since, her separation she had received the attentions of Maun. Maun was a widower with one living child. The Moores also had a child. March en, March en te Victory. Usnrndate et Nev. 21, 1832, Mr. Albert W.
